Sprays not working after steampipe update - work around
I hadn't been able to get my spray working reliably after the SP update. It seems cl_logofile isn't being saved after setting my spray - a different problem than the spray no doubt but in an impatient desire to get the darned thing working..

I saved/copied my spray into common\Half-Life 2 Deathmatch\hl2mp\materials\VGUI\logos\spray.vtf - and voila - success!

Hope that helps.

I thought they went in the custom folder?

Dunno - I've been using the Options->Multiplayer->Import button so I'd hope it would "just work" behind the scenes.

for those of you that had custom stuff...this is the path that steam checks and overwrites the default with...
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2 Deathmatch\hl2mp\custom\my_custom_stuff

You make the "my_custom_stuff" folder yourself

For example: for the crosshairs, I have my resourse folder inside of "my_custom_stuff" folder...inside the resourse folder is the .res and .ttf file that you need to make it work.

So it overrides the default crosshairs each time.

Don't know if that helps in this situation...but it's something. I havent got into sprays much, so if it's wrong, sorry bout that. :)

@halp. and @neolantis: Since custom/<whatever> is supposed to "override" stock game files - this should work. I tried moving my vtf into custom and the spray continued working, but when I went to change it to a different spray I had no luck.

I have to confess I didn't spend a lot of time trying to understand how the Sprays actually work in terms of what files are needed. I think that if you go in game and use the import button for the spray, then place your vtf into the materials\VGUI\logos\spray.vtf file (or whatever your cl_logofile is pointing to) it ought to work.

If I have some time I might try to narrow down the cause, but supposedly CS:S sprays are fixed and it's my hope that will affect hl2dm positively too so it's unlikely I will pursue this much further.

The real thing that was bugging me is why cl_logofile isn't sticking. Now that everything lives under common\ I'm not sure how "per steam profile" customizations work. Or maybe I do and I just haven't bothered mucking with it.

Thanks :)
