Planet Explorers 2 (?*)
This game is starting to look a lot closer to the art style that of planet explorer, the character design is not as cartoonish anymore, the landscape really brought me back, I hope they can revive the PE series and continue the story from where they left it off, with newer tech and features tested from previous my time games. I can't wait to see the characters from PE to have a new adventure in the Newton continent, meet new people, find the crashed spaceship, maybe even receive more information about the martian fleet on their way here. This game had a great potential but limited by its technology and quality, abandoned too early. I hope the developers can add little PE Easter eggs in My time games : )

The resemblance to Planet Explorers first occurred to me when they mentioned the new gameplay mechanic of building up your settlement from nothing and recruiting characters.

When the art direction was initially revealed, I was really disappointed that the style they were developing for My Time at Evershine didn't resemble that of Planet Explorers more, because it looked so generic anime with the pointed faces and kind of samey-looking features. I also love Sandrock's style and was sad that the difference was so significant. However, it seems like things have started improving since then, for some characters at least. In my opinion, the latest Panah model does look like an upgraded Planet Explorers character, with more soul than those that were revealed earlier on. And I'm glad to see the scientist model that still has that My Time feel.

The potential in Planet Explorers is the main reason why I bought it way back when, just before its full "release"; people were already calling it abandonware, but I really liked Pathea's ideas there and wanted them to have a chance to iterate on them. I didn't play it enough to be able to identify Easter eggs, except the obvious one of the Planet Explorers video tape in Portia, but it's been interesting to see how some of those ideas have carried through to the My Time games.

If you read the article on the art in the news section they mention they got one of the Planet Explorer artists to do the new style because they had more experience at realistic character models.

So you aren't that far off.
