(Trine 3) Flashback and Exception code: 0xc0000005
Everytime I run Trine 3 there would be a flashback within 10 to 15 min. And when I played 64 bit mode, it was flashback out of no reason. When I chose 32 bit, it emerged like this:
Unhandled exception
---------------------------
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Address: 0xFFFFFFFF
Related modules: MSCTF.dll USER32.dll gameoverlayrenderer.dll trine3_32bit.exe KERNEL32.DLL ntdll.dll
Minidump:
E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Trine 3\log\trine3_32bit.exe_a9b1a51d.dmp

Could anyone help?

Hi,
Try checking out this thread
Basically, as said on the store page, 32b executable has some problems with memory address space, which means 32b processors might get this exception. Try lowering graphics details and/or resolution

Thank you! But when I run 64b, the same problem accurs somehow without any dialog box, which is confusing me.

What are your computer specs ? Especially, what processor and how much RAM do you have ?

[edit] : wow, that's actually 0xFFFFFFFF. First time I see that

The processor is Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2350M CPU @ 2.30GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.3GHz; RAM is 4096MB. It's Win10
Btw I ran the game again and there emerged this:
Unhandled exception
---------------------------
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Address: 0x00007FFE52CEE2F9 in MSCTF.dll:00007FFE52CEE000

Ok, so, that's where my knowledge about Trine 3 reaches its limit. Try lowering the resolution and/or details so the game doesn't try to access address space that is out of memory.
It's odd, though, because with a 64b processor, you should be fine according to JLarja, or you should at least be able to launch the game in 64b without crashing :/
Good luck

Thank you so much anyway!!

You're welcome. Good luck with the game.
You can probably email all this to Frozenbyte support[www.frozenbyte.com], maybe including :
  • Exhaustive computer specs
  • Those exception messages
  • The contents of the dumps at E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Trine 3\log\trine3_64bit.exe_fef19544.dmp or whatever the path the exception is showing
  • What levels cause this
  • What you ate for breakfast

Cheerio

Crash seems to have happened in MSCTF.dll. That doesn't ring any bells, so this could be something not seen internally. According to google, msctf is related to "advanced text services", which seem to include localization and language stuff and maybe on-screen keyboards, accessibility helpers etc. too. Apparently some malware has disguised itself as MSCTF.dll, so if you don't have any antivirus software installed, now could be a good time to try some.

Without the dump file (the file listed in the post above, ending in ".dmp") I can't really say much more. Unfortunately, Steam doesn't send the 64 bit dumps to us. If you could send the dump file listed above to our support (support@frozenbyte.com) with a link to this conversation, someone could take a look (I'm currently on vacation, so probably someone else but me).

Edit: VonRickroll was faster to suggest sending the dump to us. Kudos to him.
