I completed the game btw, really beautiful!
The cliffhanger with the assassin girl sister Sarek possesses is really awesome btw. it'd be cool to have DLC finish up the story later on! is "Sarek the Deathless" the same Sarek from Trine 1 btw? he's so funny in this game, and I love how sassy he is. His lines are just pure gold xD

To answer your question, it's a little convoluted, but yes: Sarek is Sarek. One of the books you can read in the Astral Academy elaborate upon the events of Trine 1, and Sarek's part in it.
