The Hidden Cipher(s?) [Spoilers]
I loved the hidden cipher on the pause screen inside the cave. Solving it was easily the best part of my night, really made me feel like Nancy Drew! I almost pulled my old Nancy Drew code-breaking book. This game is just top notch, 100% one of the most enjoyable experiences I've ever had in a game.

I haven't seen anyone else talking about this, how many others have discovered it? Are there any others in the game I've missed so far? I need to know!

For those of you who want to find the cipher:
Use CJ's compass to find the cave in the Forgotten Forest and when it pops up just outside a cave near a climbable fallen tree that takes you up and to the right, go inside the cave and open your pause menu. It should be all garbled and messed up with a cipher overlaying the menu.

Don't spoil yourself! This really was an awesome challenge!

Hint #1 for solving the cipher: It's a pigpen cipher, also known as a tic-tac-toe code.

Solution: You'll get "RATCENEHTTSEVRAHOTSREVOHDRIBGNIMMUHEHT"

Hint #2: Reverse all the letters.

Solution: "THE HUMMINGBIRD HOVERS TO HARVEST THE NECTAR."

EDIT: Yep, nope, found FIVE more ciphers during tonight's play session. WOWZA.

O_O
All the more reason to replay once achievements are implemented

I am kind of confused about this puzzle and achievements involve this. do you solve the puzzle/cipher in game or with pen and paper? do you have to go to all of them in order? I know that first one is the one you mentioned in the forest and i found one in mines first time you enter then there is other in sewers and back in mines again. where are the other ones?

You just need to pause your game in the CJ compass areas to pop the achievements, the only spot you didn't list was the one in the cemetery. The ciphers can be solved using a pigpen cipher solver but I have no idea what the messages mean.

They hid ciphers in the pause menu? That feels REALLY unintuitive, but ok I guess

It's a hidden Cipher, it's not part of the main game. It's supposed to be unintuitive to find. Obviously it's unintuitive, which makes it that much cooler when you find it. Complaining that you didn't find something that was intentionally difficult to find just shows that you are butthurt that you didn't find it. And even if you did find it, there's no way you would have known how to solve it without looking up what kind of cipher it was. Don't discourage devs from putting cool ♥♥♥♥ in their games to find like this by complaining about it.

It seems like there's more here than just "achievements" as the messages are VERY similar to what CJ's and Jenny's code they have between them are like. There is either some deeper code hidden among these codes just like how in the game the Code that Jenny finds is just gibberish until she finds the 2nd layer to the code that it makes sense, so it very well may be that we have not yet discovered the cipher that leads us to the 2nd layer of this code, and it may have to do with some of the strange codes/numbers that are on the backs of the 4 collectible Postcards. But it also could just be a cool little achievement and a reference to how CJ found those locations and used it to come up with his code for jenny and him. What I really want to know and can't find anything on is what the heck the postcard codes mean?

later in the game when you get the key page it tells you messages are sent with an extra layer of obfuscation.

that without the key the message it would seem like gibberish. it then tells you you need to use the 1st letter of each word for the bear are rabit part of the code
1st 2 letters for the eagle and ferret
last letter for swan and egg
last 2 for wolf and sheep
and last three for whale

i think the ciphers work the same way. you need to use certain letter of each word for each cipher.

the first cipher is THE HUMMINGBIRD HOVERS TO HARVEST THE NECTAR

so thats T H H T H T N
ok clearly not that but if someone comes across a key that says use these letter in the story about a hummingbird i think that is the next step. i think the dean had a book on birds when you find his body has anyone else found that book again?

i tried the others already nothing

TH HU HO TO HA TH NE
E D S O T E R
HE RD RS TO ST HE AR
THE IRD ERS ?TO EST THE TAR
the last one is almost something

THE thIED lettERS TO the EaST of THE TAR

I believe the codes directly reference what their corresponding Zazer Spheres DO when activated. For "The Hummingbird Hovers," when Zazer Sphere 1 was activated, the rocks above it hovered in the air. The second one, "The Badger's Bite Breaks the Bones," caused the dislodging of bones referenced by the gravedigger. The third, "The Mole Carves Masterfully Through The Dark," was near the Sphere that caused the ground to shake violently upon activating. Etc.
