Shake it like a Polaroid
Seriously. As an aspiring professional, it blows my mind that Max shakes every Polaroid she takes. Shaking instant film having any positive effect at all is a myth, anyone studying photography knows that...and seeing as she apparently is... *facepalm* Drives me nuts when game designers have such ridiculous oversights.

It's the enduring influence of Outkast.

Back then you had to do that because the picture was still wet.
Long ago i had a Polaroid and i was doing exactly like her and everyone was doing the same for a good reason. we arfe talking about first gen polaroid.

Good point... Max IS very old school so I guess she would have an older polaroid camera.

I am not a professional, just a photo buff or really an amateur with some nice interchangeable lens cameras.

The portrayal of photography in the game that has been enjoyable for the most part and perfect writing wise. However there are things that make me wince the same way gun enthusiasts and book purists will nitpick inaccuracies.

The thing that bothers me more than anything is that Max uses the built in flash EVERY TIME she takes a picture including shots of:

-Outdoors in Bright Sunlight
-Directly into the Sun
-Directly at her face
-Reflective surfaces such as:
  1. A metal bucket (To be fair this photo unlike the others does show a gorgeous glare.)
  2. Mirrors
  3. Windows
  4. A Bronze Statue

She also tore her self portrait on instant film as if it was paper. Instant film are made up of layers of plastic film, and will stretch long before it tears!

I also ♥♥♥♥♥♥ my eyebrow at the expensive rangefinger like camera that Victoria was researching that advertised it's JPEG images. Anything of that price will only talk about the RAW image files. Also those nice carbon fiber tripods Max envies look like cheap aluminum ones.

At least Max was right when she she comments that instant film is so expensive nowadays. I just checked online and they're $2 per sheet plus S&H and applicable taxes. So in two days players could take 20 optional photos, plus the butterfly, plus picture of Chloe smoking out, plus possible picture of David hassling Kate, plus the morning selfie. That's $50 worth of polaroids! Max can easily afford those medium format cameras she so envies with her Polaroid money!

PS: A Reddit user noted that Evan the pretentious hipster with the "uber pro" portfolio uses a cropped frame mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. Which makes him "literally Hitler."

even if it has no effect it's pretty cool to do that ,so why don't shake ? :)

In the old times you had to shake your polaroid pictures but not only..

And no, to everyone saying "in old times", that is exactly the myth I was talking about. It is entirely false.

The film Max is using is a fairly recent innovation, and in terms of instant film technology, not old at all. "Older" Polaroid film is peel-apart, which is not to be disturbed between exposure and actually peeling off the backing. "First-gen" Polaroid is not what Max is using. Sorry but please check facts before posting. This is closer to what an early Polaroid body looks like, and they were making these into the 80s. (Btw LOL at anyone calling Max's camera "old school")

NO Polaroid should be shaken, ever. It is *not* wet. You can ruin the longevity of your image by agititating it while developing.

Source: I *am* a professional. And I do shoot Polaroid from time to time (though the film isn't called that anymore). But thanks for coming out.

Thank you for replying to this thread and actually knowing what you're talking about. :)

It looks cool though so that's the main reason they did it..

I always thought that every time you use polaroids, you have to shake the instant film.

Yeah I thought that was a bit odd too! I was thinking "no way it was THAT easy!"

Also I haven't seen anything extra fancy like a double reflex camera. Or a Hasselblad. Or a standing tripod camera with glass film. I never used one of those, but one of my art profs uses them - the larger the negative, the bigger you can get the photo! Some stunning stuff.

In fact, is there anyone using 120mm or 35mm film or is it just instant stuff? Because we never used that in art school..
