on the scrap of paper you found in Nathan's room number is 542

Focus on the buttons. You'll notice the buttons that have been pushed many times, the numbers have faded from use. The actual code is written in one of Nathan's notes that you investigate while in Chloe's room. It's in red. You can still guess the combination on your own :)
