All doors can be unlock from the inside.

Nope there are doors that can't be unlocked from the inside without a key.

Deadbolt doors Keyed both sides for example.
Ah touche. I don't think Dana's room had a deadbolt but I see your point, but still I do have a point.

This sounds pretty plausible

Y'all should come to Europe one day. :) Most homes older than ca. 70 years will have a simple key-hole, that can fit a key from both sides: once someone takes your key from the inside, and locks the door from the outside, you're simply locked in, period.
Well the game was created in Europe, I don't know much about Europe though. I'm Thai and I have doors where we use those heavy duty locks and we can be locked from the inside. But the door is way different than the doors here in America. Where I live in Thailand, it's a sliding door when you open it to the left and right side.

we need a door expert here.for this famous genious question...

Yeah they need to explain to me how Juliet with no key in her hand locked the door from the outside, best magic trick ever.
Well, Juliet could probably have a key. It's just that the devs aren't going to animate and draw every single detail. I'll overlook Juliet not having a key and let's say she did. It still doesn't explain Dana being locked in.

It makes for a great story, but honestly I was sort of wondering the same thing as the OP. What would be the point of having a lock on the outside in the hallway? What, do you lock the door, go outside, climb back up to your room, go in the window and then go to sleep for the night?

Seems like they set up the girls dorm for those good old fashioned "panty" raids if the locks are on the outside...lol
Exactly lol.

True and locks are for honest people as the saying goes. I don't know about where you live but in the US some girls are good at snooping and pick up lockpicking, chloe failed.

Hehe, yeah, Chloe's fail was epic. :P Guess she didn't hang out with Frank long enough. Which only endears her to me more, btw.
Why would you like Chloe more just because she fail a lock pick?

She meant that she likes her more for not hanging out with Frank :P

Zactly! :) And it's really kind of a funny scene, what with Chloe all 'professional' and all, with 2 wires, trying to pry that lock open... and then being at it for like ten minutes, and not get anywhere. :)

im not staying at blackwell academy if i cant lock my door! ..just no.
I was also wondering what this scene was about, not just the lock issue, but the logic behind the plot. I would have to play again to get the details, but there are some things that gave me some thoughts for now:

Victoria's room was left open, either already unlocked, or her posse has a key. Of course, they had to get a towel, but why didn't they go to their own rooms? I don't have the other chapters yet that would further my knowledge of the story, but would being a member of Vortex have its perks?

The door being ajar was a clue/opportunity to snoop around. Before this though, I had to go into Max's room first. There, I discover, Dana apparently was in the room, without Max's prior knowledge. If it were me, in Max's position, I would be concerned about safety and security given I didn't really know all these characters all that well. Apparently Max has only been there for 3 weeks? Seems way too trusting, or there's some type of special rule I don't know about....

While ironically I'm snooping in Victoria's room, I find that I'd have to print out the email. According to the email, Victoria says she never actually showed Juliet the scandalous texts, so she made it all up. Admittedly, I wouldn't have thought of it until I read the email. If Max had asked if Juliet saw the evidence and that caused Juliet to reconsider, then I would have deduced that Victoria played her, which would have eliminated the need to go in Victoria's room.

Was this on purpose? Perhaps. It would help in part to make up for my scare of discovering someone else was in the room, and that an item was confiscated in the first place. Otherwise, it feels like an unnecessary subplot when I really needed to complete the mission and turn in the flash drive in the first place. Of course, that eliminates the dialogue with Dana that reveals Warren's feels....

Ok let's face it Blackwell Academy would not pass any sort of inspection for safety, it has dorm room doors that can be locked to prevent the students from leaving, the fire alarms you need a hammer to be able to use it, and god knows what else is not up to par for a school in 2011/2012.

The dorm pull alarms were updated. The main building might be dated, but I'm not sure it's out of code. There are still "break glass" types in modern use, and others with covers for tampering prevention. I get the impression that it's ironic with the contrast between buildings, especially for a school mainly privately funded by a wealthy family. You'd think they'd have the budget to upgrade some things. Again, this is probably done on purpose on the devs' part, nonetheless. It's interesting.
Oh, and sure enough, I remembered to screenshot this the other day when I was noting the intricacies of the details left in the game. Subtle forewarning right in Chapter 1.
