This seems to be a kind of expensive and fancy car, does he have all of this money for a car like that? And why David controlled Samuel? I mean he's not a great detective (maybe, or maybe we can't see the entire puzzle yet), but Samuel is a simple man, after he sweeps he paints, not that dangerous as character :D
He also fits into this suit...

also wasn't 'SXFNDR' Nathan's car?
This made me laugh, thanks, I love that line!
David is very paranoid and doesn't understand Samuel, or thinks he's a weirdo. From his perspective it makes sense to keep an eye on someone who is so strange.
Samuel was not suspicious at all and seems like the guy who wouldn't hurt a fly. On the other hand the Principal is way more suspicious, and David probably knows that so he tracked his car.
And when we check the car with Nathan's one they seem pretty, if not totally, the same. Do you really think Nathan would drive a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ cheap car he uses everyday? It's probably a pretty expensive car, and a janitor wouldn't be able to support this.
Wells also stays late in school which is proofen by various cutscenes
The thing about that though is typically with Dontnod they take the character who seems like they could never be "the bad guy" and make him the bad guy, like for instance Mr. Mark Jefferson the teacher Max even kidded about in her journal that she wanted to marry him. I wonder if she wants to scratch that line out in her journal now? heh :D
Yeah, probably you're right. David is really strange as characters, as Samuel too!
