I still think about the scene when Nathan entered Victoria's room after Kate jumped/not jumped. Too little face animation to tell what he was thinking.
As for Rachel, she was gone during the previous school year and her corpse smelled. She was buried in the junkyard for awhile, though it is possible Mr. Jefferson and Nathan kept her alive for a few months before killing her. That pic of her and Nathan is creepy since I would imagine it was a dead Rachel with a very alive or drugged up Nathan.
Anyway, like Max, Rachel was probably held captive whereas Kate wasn't. Because she was there for a while and tortured, she could tell somebody her abductors are.
In Ep3, Nathan (in the diner) reacts quite odd seeing Max in Rachel's clothes. He mistakes Max for Rachel at first. That would make me believe that Nathan either
- is not aware of Rachel's death and/or
- misses Rachel and/or
- killed Rachel inadvertently.
If he killed Rachel deliberately, he would not react in this way. I do not believe Nathan to be the "bad guy" neither. He is more a victim than a villain. In episode 4 (last scene), IF Nathan was the one who wrote "You're all gonna die" and "Rachel IS here" in the junkyard (although the type face is quite different from the writing "THE PRESCOTTS RULE THIS TOWN" on his room plate), we can assume that Nathan finally knows about Rachel's fate.
The reason they did not kill Kate is because they quickly realized Nathan made a mistake and brought the wrong girl to the bunker, Kate has no time powers. The entire bunker has been built by Sean Prescott in an effort to gain those time powers for himself.
Recently SP realized that he needs to take a special photograph at the exact moment of death of the girl with the time powers. So far he has been unsuccessful, they were close with Rachel but she died of her drug overdose just before the right picture was snapped. Basically what they do is they inject a drug overdose and then snap pictures every few seconds until the girl dies and if they capture the exact moment of her death then she will be "Polarized" and with that picture SP can get the powers to transfer to his son Nathan.
When SP found out about the picture part of it all, which will use some form of cross polarization photography, he had Mark Jefferson hired at Blackwell and then proceeded to take control of him. How he achieved that control is still a mystery but it is likely through the use of some super natural power or perhaps even hypnosis. With Jefferson in his control he has the man with the expertise to be able to take the picture he needs to attain the time powers for his family, ie Nathan.
Also recently David Madsen has been getting through to Nathan, those cryptic lines in Nathan's school file, "David M always talks in my head" and "David M helps me to follow those he follows" seemed like they are sinister and evil however quite the opposite is true. David is getting through to Nathan that everything going on with his father is seriously wrong and David is trying to get him to rebel so he can get the evidence he needs to crack this case of the missing girls.
Nathan likely in an effort to please his father brought Kate to the bunker. Right away SP realized they had the wrong girl so SP put a plan into motion that would cause Kate to end her own life which makes her no longer a liability should she remember what happened to her at some point.
This even worked for many players as they were unable to talk Kate down off of the roof. However the thing that happened during that incident was that Max stopped time and this was likely detectable by something SP has and he was able to then determine that Max has the time powers.
At that time plans were put into motion to get Max to the bunker and they came to fruition the night of the two moons when the girls rushed to the junkyard, Jefferson was likely instructecd to kill anyone who was with Max and get Max to the bunker, which he did perfectly.
I think when episode 5 starts it will pick up right where the trailer left off with Jefferson approaching Max with that loaded syringe and the camera will pan to the couch and there will be Sean Prescott and possibly his son Nathan. I honestly think Nathan will break free of his father's control and somehow save Max and I think the start of the tornado hitting the town will be the thing that distracts them all long enough for this to happen.
David Madsen might also play a part in saving Max as he knows where the barn is and Nathan also likely told him about the bunker.
Anyway that is my theory about Nathan and about how the game will roll in episode 5....hope you liked it! :)
If she was captured for some time there would have been much more photos in her folder. There would have been no other reason to imprison her. If she could have indentified Nathan or Jefferson they would have killed her right away.
I am terrible at reading long posts...but I like the idea of SP, the time power snatcher...anyway I have a serious problem right at the beginning of your theory...all the other girls...and there were a lot folders there...they guessed they all had time powers and killed all of them? Or they took them hostage, noticed "Oh no, wrong girl, next." And let them free with memory loss? Kind of a bad and risky strategy. Or did they just start out to take creepy pictures and noticed the time powers just after Rachel was there? I am quite confused now.
Oh! I forgot that part, yeah it is a long assed theory that's for sure, anyway Sean Prescott discovered a long time ago that a female student at Blackwell always carries the time powers and I think the Tobanga totem has something to do with that. So ever since SP discovered that he has been trying to get the time powers for his own use. If we look at Rachel's case then she was missing for about 6 months maybe less. So if we then do the math this has been going on for about a decade if we multiply the 18 or 20 binders by the time period Rachel was missing for.
So we know that Nathan is being controlled through heavy meds, and Jefferson is most likely being richly paid, but I still have to wonder how Nathan's father (or maybe Jefferson or Nathan) is able to detect that Max has a gift. Jefferson hints at Max's "gift" a few times, even before she knew she had the gift - which makes me think that maybe Max isn't the only one with this "gift" already...
You start to mix time frames that have no connection to each other. The six months are just the time Rachel was missing and we get this information when Max reads the missing person posters. So, I don't think there is a six months abduction plan laid out.
I don't know how long a semester is at Blackwell. If it is about half a year then it would make sense they abduct one new girl each half a year. But this is just too much speculation for me. And as I just read by "Abaddon", if they COULD detect the right girl with time powers why does it take them so f1uck1ing long to obtain them? A decade? Geez...
The photos were in a binder, which might have been filled with photos. What I've noticed in LIS is that all the photos on a wall or a photo album are not examined. It's possible that more images of Rachel are in the binder, but those photos could be similar to the ones seen up close, so they are not shown to the player. For instance, the binder may have a dozen of pics of Rachel bound and crying.
Obviously I don't have it all right, and i just used the "6 months" as sort of loose time frame per victim. Some might have taken longer, some might not have taken as long. If you think about it Max never really knew she could manipulate time until she was desperate to save Chloe when she got shot by Nathan. So if a girl was wandering around Blackwell with these time powers something catestrophic like it was with Max in the girl's room would need to happen before the girl discovered for herself that she had some sort of power.
So perhaps a girl could even wander around for close to a year before she reached out with the right circumstances for her to want to reverse time, and until she started using these powers the people looking for that girl would have no idea who she was. Sean might have even got impatient and started bringing random girls to the bunker, testing them, killing them, and then bring another one until he found one with the powers.
There could also be more binders in that cupboard because Max only opens one side of it and we can only really count the ones on that side.
