[Spoiler's probably] Another thread about the Blue Jays
If you saw my other blue jay thread, you're probably why I'm making another one. Mainly because I don't feel like looking for it and I started getting really off topic with theories that have already been made before so I figured I may as well create a new one with more stuff and evidence to prove my point.

The blue jay's in episode one and four always fascinated me, due to the fact that when saving him both times it says it will have consequences, and usually when DontNod says it will have consequences, it will. Despite even after completing all released episodes, no consequences have be shown.

Chloe is commonly represented by a blue jay, and her hair and eyes are the same colour as a blue jays feathers. In Native American cultures there is a character named "Blue-Jay" who is good-natured but can't help himself and causes a lot of trouble, much like Chloe.

Blue jays are also known to roam the land of the dead a lot, explaining why Chloe dies frequently, a lot of her clothing is also associated with symbols of, and colours of death. When Blue-Jay died, he was happy with his death and started to appreciate death, possibly could be Chloe's heavy emotional suffering and pain, with losing three friends and family members, and having an ex-military surveillance freak step-dad, and how it all ends after she dies, or represents the end of her pain in the alternative timeline.

Saying this, it could be possible that the blue jay in episode one and letting him free from the house in episode four could play a part in episode five, with saving the blue jay from death, representing her death in the bathroom by Nathan, and letting the blue jay free from the house maybe representing how Chloe escapes her emotional problems by death, or maybe even escaping death due to choices screen at the end says that you "saved" the bird in Episode Four.

Perhaps, the bird leaving the house could also mean Chloe leaving Arcadia Bay at the end of episode five, although I highly doubt this. I find it more likely it represents the leaving of Chloe's emotional problems, due the time when the bird enters the house, you start the see the many emotional problems that Chloe is suffering, like David, Rachel and and her dad. By the time the bird leaves the house, David has left the house, and Rachel's body has finally been found.

I personaly think that the blue jay is more about Chloe returning to her old self and getting over the death of Rachel. Joyce mentions that she is hoping that Max will bring back the old Chloe and that she needs to be guided, like you do for the bird in episode 2. In episode 4 the bird has made a nest, possibly suggesting being stable or the way max treats her when they talk about Rachel and her death by not interfering but being there. As you said, I don't think a small decision will decide if she leaves or not however, I do think it will have something to do with Chloe's state after everything.

All nice thoughts but what if it is just a bird with no deeper consequences? Please don't see this as trolling or so but I never saw really much into that bird. Maybe I'm wrong and if I am I'm curious what might be with that bird.

I like this one. But I'm a bit worried about "saving" Jay, since I saw the eggs in the garage. (I saved the Blue Jay, didn't disturb the bird nest)

Consequences don't always mean bad. It can mean you saved the birds life, that is the consequence.

Did we save it though? I'm not sure anymore. Considering all those birds died outside... I hope "saving" it was the right decision.

Could be a metaphor for how many times Chloe has died but Max still having the ability to save one.

I'm sure it will have a major impact like ''Jefferson shoting with his gun again and then somebody is save because he shot on that bird''
...or something like that. xP

Does anybody know if there's still a bluejay nest in Chloe's garage in episode 4 if you let the bluejay die in earlier episodes?

I looked it up, someone let the bluejay die in Ep.1 but there is still nest in Ep.4. I think bluejay already laid the eggs in Ep.1 but we couldn't see them because of David's muscle car. I wasn't even aware of lockers in Ep.1 but they're actually there. The car is distracting :c
