David is a useless? - [SPOILER]
The David in the darkroom scene bothered me, we watched the soldier die a lot of times and we need to go back in time constantly trying to on the basis of luck tell him what to do. What most disappointed me was that David was like a puppet our at that moment. He did everything we told him to do. He is a soldier, a war veteran. It's a shame that David needs to hear a teenager at the time to stop Jefferson. That doesn't make much sense, because it takes the heroism of David, he was so silly in this scene, as if it depended on the player to defeat Jefferson. But you could say: "But the Max could go back in time and had an advantage. So she helps him capture Jefferson. " Yes, but go with me: David didn't know that Max had the power to go back in time. In theory, he was skilled and had survived the war. He had received military training. Perhaps it would be more interesting if he'd stop the Jefferson on his own. Instead of the game put in our hands what was happening. If you realize, when we were in the dark room and David shows up, we have the option to tell him about the situation of Chloe. Independent of the decision that we take, the dialogue ends with David saying to Max out the Darkroom to go outside and get some air in the middle of a storm with a tornado.

David was an active soldier, who most definitely fought in wars, since he has his stress syndrome. But I agree, that doesn't make him close combat expert in any way. As long as you are not special forces, you are not necessarily required to learn hand to hand combat at all. You might learn, how to shoot, how to search people, to warn them, to bandage them, ect. Modern warfare is done from a quite distance nowadays. If you let get somebody close enough to engage in a hand to hand combat, you already messed up.
But surely they teach you that when you're moving through what may be a building occupied by hostiles, you don't go around corners blind and get attacked from the side. I mean, somehow even I know that, and I'm definitely no Rambo. From the doorway to the bunker, David could see the wall to his right and the wall in front of him. The rest of the room was hidden around the corner to his left. Instead of turning his back to the part of the room he could see was empty, he kept facing the wall to his front and got blindsided.

Weeellll,...

..when I look back at my national service time...

But in that you really have a point, the way he entered the room was really stupid.

David's hardcore as ♥♥♥♥
That was one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. I laughed through almost the entire video

Don't get me wrong I think they should have had David much more competent then he was because the way they did it this is a disservice to all the war vets in the USA making them look like fools when in reality they are NOT. Dontnod should have never portrayed a USA combat soldier as they did with David Madsen and I will be surprised if war vets don't chastise them for this with letters and emails of protest because they really do deserve it.

I have to admit when David said, "Yes Sir!" to Max when she told him to kick the table I had to laugh and that should NEVER be done to a supposed combar war veteran from ANY coutry. So shame on Dontnod for adding David in the way they did!
I actually am in the army right now. I haven't deployed yet but everyone in my platoon that has deployed told me about their combat stories. I've heard stories when team leaders and others would fold mentally when taking contact and lose their composure. I was told during deployment, someone in my platoon's team leader was fired from his position and almost got a negligent discharge for refusing to return fire and when he did, he fired in the wrong direction and almost hitting one of his guys.

What I'm getting at is that yes there are those that have done things for their country, but remember that there are also ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. You'd be amazed at the stupidity that goes on in my batallion because people do dumb stuff. Also if you remember during David's monologue he actually said that he wasn't the best soldier. Even if you wanted to play the card that David's a war vet, well that's fine but if David himself admits he wasn't great then I don't see anything wrong with that whole scene.

And yeah the "yes sir" part made me laugh and cringe. I think we can both agree on that.

Cool thanks for the clarification and I should have realized when ever you get a group of individuals together, there are always some who rise to the top and some who don't. So this makes much more sense now to David's total lack of any skill in that scene with Jefferson as his counterpart.

Tbh. I didn`t care much if the David-to-the-rescue scene had logic flaws or displayed him with proper competence ... I just thought the scene was pure comedy gold.

Since I doubt Dontnod really wanted to lighten the mood there to me it was their biggest misstep on the whole game, entertaining nonetheless ;)

I especially loved:
"David, kick the table!"
>David kicks the table, which barely makes it over to Jefferson, Jefferson kicks it back as if they were playing ball and shoots poor David.
I rewinded that like 5 times for the fun of it =)

I guess it sounded good on paper but the animation crew was likely in despair.
In my play through Jefferson just got the drop on him by hiding behind the door and smacking him with the tripod. Jefferson isn't so much a good fighter, just a dirty one. Also David was going solo (without a squad as he was most likely trained) into an unknown situation, probably expecting to confront Nathan, not Jefferson. Jefferson had the tactical advantage of knowing the layout of the room and capitalized on that. After all that I just think Jefferson had a bit of dumb luck on his side. It happens, cops and soldiers get ambushed by lesser trained and lesser equiped adversaries. It's not insulting or impossible, but just lousy luck. I don't know, maybe David just rolled a critical failure.
