The first two Life Is Strange games are amazing
As far as storytelling, and making you feel attached to the characters goes, I think LiS, and LiS: Before the Storm are masterpieces. I'm usually more of a shoot em' up kind of gamer, but over the last few years I've found myself coming back to these two games.

I've never talked with anyone that's played these games, and I just want to get it out. These games are such a tragedy. Playing Before the Storm first, and then the original game, is just so sad to me. Anyway, I'm just rambling. Feel free to share any thoughts about these games below. Please no spoilers for LiS 2, True Colors or Double Exposure

I did not expect much from the first LiS game. It was after playing Telltale's The Walking Dead that I decided to take a leap of faith and jumped in blind. All I knew at the time was that LiS has similar gameplay to a Telltale game, and that its detractors called it "Tumblr: The Video Game."

Is the game a masterpiece? From a critical standpoint, perhaps not.

But despite its flaws, in terms of how much LiS resonated with me... it is definitely one of those standout games I've had the pleasure of experiencing. It helped establish my taste in "choose your adventure" games, as well as slice-of-life dramas.

I enjoyed both LiS and BtS so much that I went out of my way to get a copy of those rare limited editions for both titles. The soundtracks for both games are on my hard drive, and still listen to them on special occasions.

Hey welcome friend. welcome to the support group, lol. I've always appreciated the space these forums create for us to...digest it all.

(Warning- These opinions involve the two games and involve the fandom, don't take it personally).

I'm actually replaying the first game now (as I should lol) but I have replayed before the storm and I can tell you that game feels a bit not comparable to the first game just feels a bit bland but its weird because I've played these two games the first time and loved it. And everytime I replay it, I find their flaw its crazy.

Now the only thing I didn't like about the first game after replaying it was how chole and warren played a role as a love interest in max's choices per-say just felt off to me. And the fandom somehow plays a role in it as well don't know how that's possible but it is.

For the before the storm, I only think its bland MAINLY because it wasn't up to as much hype for me when I replayed it but I did like how we saw more of Rachel Amber. Now I do think Rachel Amber was manipulative to chole in the beginning but ended up dropping it (I truly think chole and Rachel amber are two sides of the same coin).

That's why a lot of people think they have perfect chemistry compared to max.

But yes again, don't take these opinions personally because I know both of these games I just mentioned aren't very positive or I have said in here are flawed.

I played them both, and that will likely be it for me for the franchise, but the characters and major story elements ended up being pretty memorable, so I guess call that a success. On the downside, the gameplay feels very forced and other than the final decision in each game, I did not get the feeling that your decisions mattered all that much. I did check a Steam guide afterward and see that there were some other consequences to your actions, but during gameplay they didn't feel very impactful. Maybe that's because the game isn't a dating sim and much more a VN that you are often just watching unfold.

The bonus episode for BTS was terrible, really driving home the point that this is at its core a walking simulator, and I'm sure I would have liked the main games a lot less if wasn't focused on pretty girls and teasing a better romance between them.

The voice acting definitely makes these games what they are.

1: Yes, the Farewell Episode is more like a walking sim, but it's a part of the emotional story. Seeing Chloe lying on the ground at the end, abandoned by her loved ones, is so heartbreaking...

2: LiS and BtS wouldn't be the same without the relationship around Max, Chloe and Rachel

3: Yes, the voice actors are great, I don't know of any other game where the dialogues conveyed emotions so consciously and believably.

I used to not be a fan of games like this, especially because I have trouble making decisions in real life. LiS with Max's superpower was something very special for me, you could always rewind time and see "what if...", even if many important decisions only have an impact later and then can't be rewound.

I don't know if there is any other game (or film/series) where you feel as connected to the characters as you do with Max and Chloe in LiS and BtS. You spend so much time with both of them, read their diaries, hear their thoughts and you are there for many important moments in their lives.

The problem with games like this is that as soon as you know the story and there are no more surprises, all that's left is a walking simulator.

All Life is Strange games have several things in common:
Someone dies, everything is mysterious, there are 2 different romances (straight or gay), there is humor and cool sayings, but also a lot of heartbreak. I have now played all the LiS games that have been released (except the True Colors add-on), but LiS+BtS touched me the most, everything was so harmonious, I just missed a happy ending.

I would like to see more adventures with Max and Chloe and Rachel. That will probably never happen, because the story is complete, they prefer to produce games for new audiences rather than for the few fans of an old game, the story would be too complicated or not canon at all (but I could probably still cope with that ;) )

Unfortunately, this studio is dead. The WOKE cult ousted the people who made the first 2 games due to creative differences. You can see the direction they tried to move towards with the 3rd game in the series. Just chalk this studio up as another victim of Sweet Baby Inc., WOKE garbage or DEI adventures.

Can you chuds talk in another language that isn't just buzzwords regurgitated from the usual slop content mills? It's like "DEI that, woke this, woke that..." and nothing else lmao.

I liked the farewell episode when I first played it, when I replay it though I tend to not like Max's inner dialogues during it because I just get internally mad at her for 2 reasons, 1. Throughout the whole episode she struggles to tell chole that she's going to move and I just internally struggle with some of her inner dialogue because it's always mumbles or like she's on the verge of crying.

2. It's almost like the voice actor during the whole thing when she did the dialogue maybe they asked her to do it in a way to bascially do the dialogue in a high schooler way it's very frustrating when you replay through it and hear that dialogue.
But yeah my only compliant, I only really have a problem with the farewell episode and the before the storm is just mid to me.

I do like the Life is Strange games, they are brilliant, I haven't yet played the playthrough of farewell, but at the same time I know what happens because I've seen a playthrough of someone playing it

Life is Strange and The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit are amazing.
Everything else I don't understand.
