Help with Alyssa - Episode 5

Okay so when you first enter the streets, Alyssa is trapped inside a building/window and you have to save her (for my game at least). I searched this up online and it says you're supposed to speak with her first in order to use the wooden board to save her (I'm pretty sure). The thing is, I don't know where I'm supposed to stand if we have to speak with her at all. I've tried standing to the right and to the left of her (next to the damaged car and wood boards) but I just can't. Is there a spot where I specifically have to stand? Do you have to save her in order to continue on?

you dont have to save her at any point in the story but i thought since im beng a guardian angel to everyone else ill be a guardian angel to the fat tumblrina.

The plank you use is to the left as you stand in front of her. It's sticking up pretty prominently. The standing in the right spot to trigger the look/use thingy is the trick.

I can only "look at" the plank, there is no option to "use" it. No matter if I talked to her before or not. I saved her every time and now MAx is just refusing to use the obvious solution....
