Giving away Life Is Strange episode 1-5 key for free [CLOSED]
After seeing so many free episode 1 threads with ppl just taking the key and leave, I've decided to do a series giveaway of the game. There is a catch, however. Since a lot of the lurkers here just visit the forums here for a free code without contributing to the forum irks me, I want a 1000 word or more essay on the evolution of point and click adventure game and how current point and click games like telltale's The Walking Dead games are changing the genre. Please cite and reference your sources. If the essay is 1000 words or more, has a coherent thesis, and it well written, I will pm the winner the key for episode 1-5 on Sunday December 27, 2015. The deadline is 11:59 pm December 26, 2015. Please post your essays here. I will also be checking your profiles to make sure it is your main gaming profile. If the profile you use to post your essay has no games in your profile or your profile is private, you are disqualified. Also, please post 20 different comments on this forum. comments that really do not contribute to the threads like "hi" or "lol" do not count. I want actual comments. Since I am going to spend about $15 on a game for a random person, I want to make sure I give this game to someone who would actually want and play the game.

UPDATE: Please do not plagarize -cut and paste entire essays. Doing so is an automatic disqualification. As mentioned above, I would like citations. Therefore, please put in footnotes. This way I can tell you actually wrote it and not copy something off of http://www.sticktwiddlers.com/2014/11/25/are-telltale-games-the-catalyst-behind-the-point-and-click-revival/ for instance.

For the essay I like the most that meets the requirement above, I will give them a key through PM. I may pick a runner up as well.

UPDATE 2: I Gave the keys away to someone on the win 2 copies thread because that thread was a hoax that some troll made and I didn’t get any original essays here. Thanks for playing everyone.

Actually the OP got that all wrong it is Dontnod that is "changing the genre" with their approach to the Point and Click Adventure game, not Telltale, Telltale has not even updated their engine to a better movement system like LiS has..that movement system is the exact same in their newest game Minecraft Story Mode.

Come on... don't be a fanboy. Honestly, I don't see how all these games change the genre, we've seen 3d adventures before. They only made it more casual, drop all the inventory and puzzles brainstorming. And all this was made for console players. I would call it interactive movie rather than point and click adventure.

Before The Walking Dead, we had games like Telltale's Sam and Max and Talking s of Monkey Island. I think originally, the Walking Dead games were to have more puzzles as indicated in episode 1. There was a long delay between episode 1 and 2 because Telltale realized how popular episode 1 was and how pointless some of the puzzles were like the battery in the radio puzzle.

Not only they dropped the puzzles and inventory system, they also added more to the storyline. Before the Walking Dead, Telltale wasn't known for their story telling as evident with out Sam and Max's storyline was a mess.

I think these adventure games are than interactive movies since when I think of interactive movies, I think of Telltale's Jurassic Park series or those early fmv videogames like Dragon's Lair. These games have more gameplay in it like the button mashing in the telltale games. Even the new King's Quest games, which are made in the style of the Telltale games have puzzle solving and button mashing qte. However, it is true that adventure games are going into the direction of being more full-time - a direction that had started since the Sierra days.

Also, while we like LIS, it didn't changing the adventure game genre as much as Telltale has with The Walking Dead. In all honestly, Dontnod gave TT competition in a genre that the latter had a monopoly on.

It wasn't stated that I couldn't copy and paste. LOL! Do you not have anything better to do than be an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥? You must have a really pathetic life; hiding behind a computer screen with a private steam profile talking ♥♥♥♥ like an immature 10 year old. BTW you are probably too stupid to realize that my post edit made it before the deadline--three and a half hours before the deadline. Furthermore, I realize the OP did stipulate the no plagiarism policy with his edit, hence, I modified my submission and stated that it is an editted submission.

You, little boy have been reported for violating forum guidelines. Go be a little troll under that bridge of yours.

Imma go run a marathon and murder every single other contestant so I win and blame the rules not stating I could not

You're a sore loser and you know that but the way you crawl and suck up specially in an altruistic event like this is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ disgusting
Truth be told with the indication that I wanted references and citing sources would mean that I want the essays to be written and not copy and paste. I guess I wasn't clear with having footnotes in my initial post when I said "to cite source" as no one added footnotes. Even Manlyman picked up the "no copy and paste" vibe by jokingly stating that he will (and did) post a wiki article on genitals.

I will announce the winner later today. I have to read and determine if that essay with the videos was written with the writer's own words and not directly lifted from the videos. If the event that none of these essays meet the requirement, I will extend the deadline to Jan 1. I might have to end up writing a sample essay to show other ppl what I want.
I read the essays, and the only one that qualified is an essay that follows the format of the video source. However, it is in the author's own words. I expected a more original essay with the author's own thoughts than a rewritten one. Not sure if I should extend the essay deadline to Jan 1st with clearer rules or award the person.

I might have to write a sample one to show what I want
DAMN IM LATE!

I might extend the deadline since the essays I received were copy and pasted or summarized of existing articles and videos

I like your idea. Too bad i found that thread after the deadline, and my english might be too bad for a proper essay. But i think actions like yours improve the level of internet. Bit sad that i only count 24 answers if you ask ppl to use their brains..

ooohhhh...delayed deadline!!! ok, maybe ill make an attempt.

Lol the only post in here that is more than a 1000 words is the copy pasted genitals wiki post.
1000+ words is quite a bit.

There was another essay posted here that actually had over 1000 words. His post is now gone for some odd reason - maybe he has deleted it. Anyway, I was debating whether or not to award him since he is the only one who followed most of the rules, but he basically summarize in his own words the entire video, which he cited as a source. Technically, it isn't plagarizing per se, but ithe structure of the essay wasn't his as it followed the video closely - from talking about LucasArts beginning to Revolutions brief mark on the point and click era to Sierra's foundation of adventures to Telltale's reviving the genre from obscurity. I would have started with Sierra as the start of adventure gaming since they pretty much started with Mystery House and then King's Quest. Then again, it can be up for debate since someone - like the video - started with text parser games with no graphics, which is just as fine.

I also wanted to award it to him since I looked at his profils and he actually played these types of games, so I know he would play it and enjoy it.

As mentioned before, I might either cancel the contest altogether or restart it for those who want to take a crack at the contest. If I start it again, please remember to use footnotes and no plagarizing.

The 1,000 word count was imposed for those who really wants the game. As mentioned before, I am actually going to spend money on this to someone I don't know. That said, I would like to give the game to somebody who may not afford it for whatever reason, but would show passion in wanting it with an original essay. Such an individual would less likely collect the game for collection purposes - I have given games to friends who for the most part just collects it, which bites - or collect for trading purposes, nd more because he/she wants to play the game all the way through.

As one can see on the other threads giving the game out for free, a lot of the codes were grabbed withing seconds without the individual taking it, saying "Thank you" in return.
