Not only they dropped the puzzles and inventory system, they also added more to the storyline. Before the Walking Dead, Telltale wasn't known for their story telling as evident with out Sam and Max's storyline was a mess.
I think these adventure games are than interactive movies since when I think of interactive movies, I think of Telltale's Jurassic Park series or those early fmv videogames like Dragon's Lair. These games have more gameplay in it like the button mashing in the telltale games. Even the new King's Quest games, which are made in the style of the Telltale games have puzzle solving and button mashing qte. However, it is true that adventure games are going into the direction of being more full-time - a direction that had started since the Sierra days.
Also, while we like LIS, it didn't changing the adventure game genre as much as Telltale has with The Walking Dead. In all honestly, Dontnod gave TT competition in a genre that the latter had a monopoly on.
I will announce the winner later today. I have to read and determine if that essay with the videos was written with the writer's own words and not directly lifted from the videos. If the event that none of these essays meet the requirement, I will extend the deadline to Jan 1. I might have to end up writing a sample essay to show other ppl what I want.
I might have to write a sample one to show what I want
ooohhhh...delayed deadline!!! ok, maybe ill make an attempt.
1000+ words is quite a bit.
There was another essay posted here that actually had over 1000 words. His post is now gone for some odd reason - maybe he has deleted it. Anyway, I was debating whether or not to award him since he is the only one who followed most of the rules, but he basically summarize in his own words the entire video, which he cited as a source. Technically, it isn't plagarizing per se, but ithe structure of the essay wasn't his as it followed the video closely - from talking about LucasArts beginning to Revolutions brief mark on the point and click era to Sierra's foundation of adventures to Telltale's reviving the genre from obscurity. I would have started with Sierra as the start of adventure gaming since they pretty much started with Mystery House and then King's Quest. Then again, it can be up for debate since someone - like the video - started with text parser games with no graphics, which is just as fine.
I also wanted to award it to him since I looked at his profils and he actually played these types of games, so I know he would play it and enjoy it.
As mentioned before, I might either cancel the contest altogether or restart it for those who want to take a crack at the contest. If I start it again, please remember to use footnotes and no plagarizing.
The 1,000 word count was imposed for those who really wants the game. As mentioned before, I am actually going to spend money on this to someone I don't know. That said, I would like to give the game to somebody who may not afford it for whatever reason, but would show passion in wanting it with an original essay. Such an individual would less likely collect the game for collection purposes - I have given games to friends who for the most part just collects it, which bites - or collect for trading purposes, nd more because he/she wants to play the game all the way through.
As one can see on the other threads giving the game out for free, a lot of the codes were grabbed withing seconds without the individual taking it, saying "Thank you" in return.
