What this game does best is to make you feel certain intense emotions as that character, like some good films can do. The only difference is that you are inside the screen, not outside it.
As such, if you for any reason feel detached from the character, or missed lot of details which would provide you necessary backstories and atmosphere, it's likely that you won't get the supposed emotional impact at its full extent.
I suggest you to play it more slowly, so rather than rushing to find out the next objective or next big events, just imagine yourself to be Max for a while, and take enough time to explore the surroundings, clicking over various objects, or have conversations with others, and so on.
Add to that a stellar OST ( if you like Indie Folk/Rock) and it can be really easy to get lost into this world.
After a while you get the same feeling as watching a really good tv series or very long movie.
Also the story does not shy away from tackling some very heavy topics, like bullying, suicide, sexual assault and other dark stuff.
I thoroughly enjoyed this game and think its one of the best story driven games i ever played.
And im playing games since the early 80s.
But, like with everything, the game is not for everyone. Some just cant stand the characters, or the slow pacing or are turned off by the setting.
Which is fine too. Not everyone needs to like everything.
But there is a really big chance to get hooked if you let yourself drawn in by the game.
They are good games indeed, but at the almost diagonally opposite position from such games like Life is Strange, in terms of a kind of mindset or skills you need to be able to fully appreciate their value.
I know it's not always easy to expand one's taste, but you will be rewarded greatly if you succeed, as such games like this can give you a wholly different kind of experiences than that kind of games you are already accustomed to.
Of course you don't get it. You haven't even played it.
Play the first episode and you might understand. If you don't buy them I can never tell you why I loved it. Since I cannot spoil the story. Even if I could spoil it then you would never understand.
This game cannot be written in words why it's so good. You must simply experience the journey to understand why.
If you want boring reason why it was so good..
Amazing sound quality and the actors were impressive
It's a telltale game where you play actively. Not just reading lines
It's really one of a kind story
You are hooked after the first episode for sure
If I remember correct it had really good music in it as well
Give this man a golden star.
I can compile a list of why people might play it.
1. There's a female protagonist.
2. You were beaten as a child and you sought comfort in video games.
3. You heard about all the things people said about this game.
4. You were looking for a genuine game, with a well developed story and characters.
5. Scrap that last point.
