She does a lot of crappy things to Max by selecting her words carefully as the above person said trying to play on Max's emotions. But I feel like that sort of thing stems from the possibility of losing Max again. She's clutching at straws, plus she didn't quite get over the death of her father. She's clearly got a lot going on with her; especially when she explains that she blames her father for disappearing on her. There is a lot of denial and grief still going on in her world.
The reasons help to understand her, but not to justify her behaviour.
I mean, her behaviour is a byproduct of her conditioning, trauma etc. She deflects all the time which is a trait that people exhibit when they are troubled, grieving etc. I mean, it's not hard to understand why she is behaving like this. That's not to say it's alright for her to be this way - because it's not okay.
Yeah. It all makes sense. Of course, we understand what she's been through and why she acts the way she does. The point I was trying to make is that, her history and "Stockholm Syndrome" would ultimately affect how you treat her, and ultimately without a doubt have you choose her over the other option in the end. However, for those who recognized this trait of hers, it made it difficult to choose a single entity over the numerous others. Nonetheless, ♥♥♥♥ the others, I still chose Chloe. I am a victim of "Stockholm Syndrome".
But Max wasn't less selfish.
she ghosted Chloe when Chloe needed her the most and didn't even bother contacting her when she returned to AB.
so both are no angles
in the original game neither made an attempt to contact each other. Never quite got why Deck Nine made the decision to change this and make it entirely Max.
Regarding to the chat they had in the truck after Chloe saved Max from Nathan it seems pretty much like it was on Max contacting Chloe.
And it's kinda logic as well.
People sufferung from depression probably can relate to Chloes point of view.
Keeping contact is simply not that easy at that point.
Why Deck Nine decided on what they decided. Only Deck Nine knows, but if you carefully read Max's diary, it kinda makes sense.
Check on how long Max was in Arcadia Bay already, and never even attempted to contact Chloe -- her (ex) BFF.
If they didn't meet purely on accident, they would probably never ever cross each other's path.
Pure compassion with that 'girl with the blue hair' resulted in their temporary reunite.
And one wisely chooses to save the Arcadia Bay and put the end to it.
