This. So much this. We can hate David all we want, but ultimately Chloe is the one who suffered most from his misdeeds, so it falls to her to determine if he is to be punished (and how, if yes).
David always tried to do what’s best for Chloe, even if he was a hard-ass about it. He cared about her and Joyce as well as the students at Blackwell to some extent. Chloe was toxic and verbally abusive towards David for years, but suddenly she does something stupid and gets a well deserved slap for it, she the victim. Not how it works
But ... the Chloe was the one provoking his misdeeds too, which brings us back to what was already said here and here ...
