There are two sections of the game that I would consider "creepy scarey" while playing. One would be the final scene in Episode 4, and then the nightmare scene referred to above, which occurs in chapter 5. Neither are "jump scare", although both feel like they could be.
The following spoiler area contains a list of often taboo topics covered in LiS. I suggest anyone who hasn't played not necessarily read it, but I'm providing it in case you want to look through it to mentally prepare yourself. It's almost certianly not a complete list, but I tried to hit all the ones I can think of.
Bullying
Depression
Suicide (Both self and assisted)
Mental illness (multiple instances all along the spectrum including psycosis)
Drug use (both casual and overuse)
Date rape (implied but not shown)
Kidnapping/Slalking
Teen sexuality (again, implied and discussed, but not shown)
Violence (not new to video games, but at a very personal level) inclolving physical abuse, knies and guns.
Despite all of the above, it's stil a great game.

The affect that heavier topics have are what makes the game enjoyable (that's not really the right word- it's what makes the game meaningful- it's what the game is). I'm not sure that the game really is enjoyable, persay- but it is definetly worth playing, and the best game I have ever played.
As someone who has trouble/has friends who have trouble with some of the topics covered, the game feels like a well of empathy- something I can relate to.
Anyway, I'm not sure if that was an answer to what you were trying to ask, but I hope it was.
Best of luck out there.
I didn't expect this game to be soo damn good. Just play it and tell us how you handled it. That would be a more interesting topic.
As for the OP. Nope. This game don't have to do with fear but with grief.
