How do you save the plant?
I've played this game a couple of times and as far as I am aware never saved it...

Water it the first time, but in the next chapter, your mom will text you telling to make sure not to drown the plant, which is your hint to NOT water it the second time.

or water it in second episode, but not in the first.

As long as you only water it once it will live, and it does not matter when you do that.
