To my (untrained) eyes, Chloe's necklace looks like rifle shells, maybe swiped from one of David's boxes. Drilling them out and removing the powder to thread them would take some knowledge and tools (you shouldn't try it with just a hand drill on the kitchen counter), so I figure there's two possibilities: A: she swiped the bullets and made the necklace herself, of B: someone made it for her. I guess it breaks down to her opinion of the necklace, either "It looks badass" or "someone I care(d) about gave it to me".
Personally I'm inclined to the former, if only because of meta story rules... not EVERYTHING has to be deep and significant, sometimes it just looks badass.
Totally agree ^^ I was just pointing out that the gun Chloe stole from David is a smaller calibre so maybe the necklace is as well, but you are right the shells on the necklace look like a 222 rifle shell to me. which is basically a target practice rifle calibre.
But as far as Chloe's knowledge about guns goes, she HAS watched hundreds of Youtube videos about it, you know, heh ;)
This is possible-- but DN devs went on record saying that they didn't really write in to Chloe's backstory where she got the necklace-- and of course
I don't think this speculation was substantiated, but it's a stronger variation of the speculation that it's tied to her number of deaths.
Because she can die in every single episode of LiS1-- Ep1, shot in the bathroom, Ep2 shot in the junkyard or run over by the train, ep3 if you OD her on morphene, ep4 in the junkyard,
ep5 when you visit the AU where you go to SF for the photo contest, and if you sacrifice her to save the bay. So... she can die a whole ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of times.
Prior to Rachel leaving, there's still:
Bongo
William
Max
So if you want to go literal-- that's as good an explanation as any. (Not that I speculate this was the dev's reasons for choosing 3 bullets-- I think it has more to do with the fact that trinities are in all sorts of mythology and mysticism. People gravitate towards them naturally. They may have picked 3 bullets just because it was an aesthetic choice-- because 2 or 4 looked funny to them.)
I'm with you-- but I think there is a possible meta reason-- what the devs wanted vs what Chloe wanted. But as no one I know reads minds or was part of the dev team, I chalk it up as something that can never be known.
I don't think it is a 22 but rather a .222 calibre that was created by Remmington for target practice mostly because it has very little kick and therefore better accuracy. The .22 calibre is a rimfire caliber and the .222 is a center fire caliber.
Eh, now i sound lame, but i did actually want to type 222. But yeah, i am not knowledgeable on this at all ;) Guns are just not a thing where i live, so as i said, all movies and comic books in this area.
Pretty sure Chloe would not go to Hot Topic, but we all are weak sometimes when we see something we think is cool.
I think the bullets are way too small to be real ones (especially since the look like rifle rounds more than hand gun ones), so i am going with the "it is just an amulet" idea. For now...
Hey not a problem, I think the .222 calibre is used a lot in things like that winter Olympics ski race thing where they cross country ski and stop every once in a while to shoot at some targets and i am pretty sure that is the calibre they use for that because it is extremely accurate and can be made very light weight.
One, is there a chance they might not be American standard bullets, but French standard?
Two, ................has anyone thought to ask DontNod?
Good thinking, but i think gun (or rather cartridge) calibers are worldwide standards. I know 9mm is widely used here, and i have heard terms like .357 and .50 thrown around by Germans as well as Japanese people in the military (i am a translator, so i had some contact there).
As for asking Dontnod, i remember such a thread on Reddit, and they were not very forthcoming. Also i think somebody here asked Deck Nine, since they made the amulet Canon BEFORE Chloe met Rachel, and the answer also was ambiguous (something along the lines of "Chloe just thought it was a cool necklace").
Personally i consider it a screwup, i think she should have only had that after Rachel left her. But here we are.
