Presumably Max knows what options she have and the reason why we don't have an infinite amount of choices to pick from is because these are the options Max imagined to be the answers she could give to Mark.

Max is at a crossroads between the familiar and the unknown, between certainty and doubts. Any sane would turn back and forget what has been learned and live life in blissful ignorance. We are at crossroads.

Its mostly nightmare. That entire part of the game is about Max seeing everything she won't ever want to happen. She knew it was nightmare.

I'm not sure that's the 4th wall. I think I actually saw one in the earlier stages of the game.

you didn't mentioned in the 1st epsiode when we use rewind Max will directly telling the player to move on. " I can't be at two places at once". The game is interacting with the player. Another example is when you are about to solve the keypad puzzle Max will once again talk to herself giving hints to the player how to solve the puzzle. Max wouldn't had any need to give "hints" to herself to a task she already solved. she's patiently waiting for the player to solve the puzzle and that's just how the game is tutoring the player and it works out pretty well. If we're going to point out how many times Max is breaking the 4th wall be reminded of how she seem to know everything and talks to herself. This is not a part of the game, there's a cut out VO in sbels lakemap where Max will remind herself to an agreement to not talk to herself.

It all leads back to Nathan and how he was talking to himself making me almost think he had a higher purpose than he was given in the final version based on what we know of his backround journals. For some reason these people who are like Max talks to themselves or in this case Max has more than one personality. She's not only talking to herself, she's too changing in character as soon she leaves the body.

We are destroying the character with all these theories. Because she's a dreamcharacter inside a game and the game want to provide with best game experience to make sure the gamer doesn't get stuck in the game the outcome is the game hinting out how to solve the puzzle.

In the future Dotnod maybe need to be careful how the hints are made. Instead of making the protagonist talking to itself them could make a sidekcik doing this instead. to be honest the amount of tutoring in the game got a bit overhand. After the 1st episode there's no reason left to hold our hands.

I didn't have to mention anything since I never said anything sbout it. All I said was that it wasn't the only 4th wall event, and generally it occurred earlier than the nightmare scene the OP was talking about.

That comment of Max saying she couldn't be in two places at once was occurring to me while I got stuck at certain points of the game, where at some point a response was waiting for me, but I was also stuck on the middle of a FF.

There is another one with the same keypad puzzle you mentioned, which if you give the wrong numbers at least 50 times, Max dissents against "the developers".

I could check for more when I get back in the game, however I am not at my computer at this time.

That's more of a case of gameplay and story segregation than Max interacting with the player. One of DontNod's design choices was clearly not putting any roadblocks in the way that would prevent a player from experiencing the game with it either providing clues to puzzles or alternate solutions to puzzles that aren't that tricky in the first place. Take the point in episode four when you need to get into David's locker where it requires either remembering the combination shown in an earlier episode or just using the crowbar which is right next to the locker.
