So is this game 3D or 2D?

I'm willing to buy it just to extract the four models of the robots to make a L4D mod. But if it's 2D or whatever I'm not gonna buy this scary ass game.

It's not a 3D game, the game is essentially a series of gifs you can interact with and watch. I think I remember someone mentioning they were modeling the animatronics though? I don't remember if that was on the steam forums or tumblr.

Yeah, that'll be inevitable - folks will want models for Garys mod and the like.
As it is, this is just pre-rendered scenes and whatnot, so no models in-game.

Another thing that would've beeen interesting is modding the animatronics to replace their models with those of real-life animatronics (Ex. Showbiz Pizza's Billy Bob, Mitzy, Fatz, and Rolf & Earl to replace Freddy, Chica, Bonny, and Foxy).

I think they made models and animated them into .gifs to use in the game's engine. If you're lucky the creator may release them one day.

Based on the fact that the game has a total file space as small as it does (less then a gig with high quality graphics for both the first and second game) the game wouldn't work unless it was a 2D engine.

I Think it uses pre rendered graphics since the game is running clickteamfusion 2.5 and the animatronics rarely move on camera

This game is actually 2D. Scott Cawthon used some special graphical trick to make it look like it is 3D. But it's not, it is 2D. Scott said it himself!
