Why does pressing the Esc key close out the game?
Every time I press the Esc key the game just completely shuts down. Is anybody else having this problem? Is there a reason for this? It's annoying.

All jokes aside, it is annoying. Am guessing there is no way around it then?

It's not a bug. Pressing ESC just quits the game. I don't think Scott Cawthon implemented a pause menu.

I don't care what his reasons were, that's bad design.

Although this may be a joke, it really does explain it. You're supposed to be trapped in your situation, it should feel like there's no escape outside of outright quitting the game. It definitely shouldn't pause, and while a menu that keeps the game running while you're navigating it is certainly possible, the atmosphere works a lot better when you have as few "video game elements" occupying the screen as can be gotten away with. Just don't hit escape unless you want to quit, simple.

Why are you defending the design choice? Some people, myself included, tried to see if there were Options to mess around with, and it just ended up closing the game. And if people need to pause the game and do things, they should be able to do it without quitting the game and losing the progress for the night they were on.

Maybe because I like the design choice? That's unfortunate if you did it without realizing mid-game, but for the long term I think it's better for the atmosphere. And since you know you can't pause, just account for that before you start playing through a night. Part of the game's purpose is to frighten you into messing up, so why take that challenge away by just letting you pause and think about your actions at any point?

I don't care if you like it or not, it's bad design, every other horror game I have played as a pause feature because that's what a game should have.

theres a reason it does that. so you can ESCAPE in 5 seconds or less.
seriosly, no pausee is fair. as why would you want a pause feature added so they can punish you for pausing.

No pause is NOT fair, every game should have that extremely basic function, and you can "escape in 5 seconds or less" by pausing and clicking "Quit game"

I know this is old but I fixed my problem :P I popped off the esc button :P

I think its because Scott wanted a way for people to immediately close the game in case they're scared. I'd just use Alt+F4, but whatever.
Plus, it isn't bad design not to have that feature:
1. It's NOT an ordinary horror game;
2. It adds to the mistery (game suddently closing instead of behaving normally)
3. Plus it represents Afton being in purgatory. Purgatory has no pauses.

I don't think Cauthon implemented number 3 on purpose, but it still has that effect to me.

Nah, it's just something that you don't like. FNAF don't need pause, because it will ruin atmosphere or something
