I think that is what most of us would expect, some way to temporary suspend your game so you can do other stuff. It would also allow the devs to make longer and more intricate missions not having to worry about whether players can get through it in one sitting
Simple solution could be - if you use a normal mid mission save - you don't qualify for Leader Boards, Achievements or some other Social Media virtual chest beating honor ...
I'm just looking to enjoy the game without the frustration of replaying the same parts of battles over and over again ...
If the sacrifice for that is to not be a contender on the prestigious Achievement / Leader Board .... I think I can live with that ;)
Also – in games with a strategy / tactical element, I like to reload from the same point and run a few different strategy variations off of a specific situation. I find that very interesting.
So - Is it worth it for the Devs to deny me that and try to “beat me” or prevent some cheap win tactics?
Consumers like choice – not to be dictated to – and told – “this is what you'll enjoy and we’re going to enforce it”. Let me choose whether to enable mid-game saves or have all the Leaderboard crap.
Of course, Devs are free to take maintain their current approach and I am free not to buy their game. I’ll keep an eye out and see if they take a more open minded view on this in the future. But until then, my gaming dollar will go elsewhere …
It's a single-player game. How would anyone else know how often somebody loads or saves their game?
A quick save option would be a wonderful compromise. So would a save upon exit option which deletes once you resume your game.
But slash xp and money gains by 50% for the whole mission including anything gained on said mission up to that point, so it's basically a USE IN EMERGENCY ONLY button.
Sounds brutal, but it SHOULD be punished if it's not part of the dev's original vision.
Also, the Save-On-Exit strategy doesn't work that well, since you can just copy the save files to save scum. And yes, this is in fact an issue in Darkest Dungeon.
