Feature Request: Snap to Grid
My OCD is going crazy trying to get all the boxes to line up. Please for my sanity add a snap to grid feature.

A million times yes!!

I'll go a step further and request the option to add a scaling border to the boxes based on the space requirements of the machines, and for the grid to be based roughly on the 4x4 meter foundation standard in the game, that way we can see just how much space 20 assemblers or 30 refineries would take up and maybe toy with factory layouts.

Ideally, it'd be a toggle that when activated created a border around the box (not necessary attached to it?) that is scaled based on the machine count.

ex: A refinery is 12 meters long by 5 meters wide, so the projected border would grow in increments of 12x5 meter rectangles, with the option to rotate them 90 degrees at a time. If the box says you need <=1 refinery, you get a single 12x5 rectangle on the grid. If the box says you need 3.6 refineries, you get 4 12x5 rectangles on your grid, maybe with an indicator on the 4th one that it's not fully utilized.

Additionally, it'd be nice if there were width, length, and elevation fields so you can configure things like whether the rectangles are produced in one long line, or if they'r divided into 2 rows, and even if they're split across more than one level.

ex: Your production line requires 13 refineries so the tool produces a series of 12x5 rectangles that's 13 rectangles wide in a straight line, so the total dimension would be 12x(5x13).
If you limit the rows to 1 it instead produces a series of 12x5 rectangles that's 13 rectangles long, so the total dimension would be (12x13)x5.
If you limit rows to 2 you'd get one row that's 7 refineries wide and another that's 6 refineries wide.
If you If you enter limits that are too small for the number of refineries required a warning indicator appears on the box.
Additional vertical layers may work best as their own toggle and simply add a number and an icon to the box to indicate multiple levels.

But all of this pie-in-the-sky daydreaming also makes you think about how there's more to factory design than cramming collision boxes together. Should input/output spaces be accounted for? Should belts? If you start down that path, the simulator quickly becomes a full 2D layout planner, which is a huge leap up in dev effort.

Though I do wonder if you could create blueprint files to import into your game based on layouts designed in a 2D planner app...

mabye a move the amounts on the lines connecting from one to another so we can see things and set up cleaner builds as well too much clutter for my ocd lines just going everywhere

I personally would love the ability to re-order the ingredients to eliminate unnecessary crossovers

That is a great suggestion.
How about you make a new discussion about that, since this doesnt fit the topic of this discussion?
