Bug? Spontaneous damage on random units, first mission
Whenever I've tried to play the campaign I always end up dying to spontaneous damage (damage from no apparent source) on the first mission. Half of the time my commander dies before he can enter the transport in the beginning and it doesn't even recognize that the mission was failed. Even if I do make it further along most of the troops under my control die from the same effect shortly after getting them. The time it takes seems to be random though - I've managed to get to the east enterance once before they all got wiped out from spontaneous damage, but most of the time they all die before I can move them from where they spawn.

At least the enemies are pretty easy, but it doesn't really matter since all my characters die just from existing.

Using a cheat-program of sorts ?
Units starting to burn when hovering with the mouse ?

This might even be related to your problem of only being able to start the game with admin rights tbh. I have no clue how you do it. Did you solve this / find out what that was ?

No, not using any cheats or other programs to do anything to it.

Seems like it is when I hover the mouse over them and yeah, now that you mention it there is a burning effect. Seems to only effect my own units though.

Yeah, I thought it could be related but if so I still don't why it was hard to get it to run in the first place so it doesn't really help. Also I'm still stumbed with this one, but now that the game has run I should have all built in logs etc running so if there is information I can provide I would be happy to do so, just let me know what you need.

It kind of seems like my copy came with cheats to make it harder enabled? Or something weird like that, I'll look around and see if I can figure something out, but this is really weird.

Edit: Ah just found another forum post you made related to this.

Units burning to death Win7 64
I bought this on Steam yesterday. In the first level, after i travel on the transport and get control of the soldiers all my units burn to death. Is this like what was happening with that bad Mac version?

Nope - this is what happens when you use a cracked version. Has also been reported to happen with some cheating-apps.

I've had a similar issue, if there's even a single file in the drawer that does not belong there,
you'll get that same issue. SweeFx does the same thing. Which is retárded.

PS: I love the game; oldschool is where I'm at, but these super strict rules are unnecessary at best.

Thanx for the thumbs-up :) Yeah, well its not even on intent - i implemented some antipiracy code, and yes there is a chance that this piece also kicks in occasionally when memory is altered outside the process.

So my guess is something happened with my install and a file is corrupted or missing. That said I tried reinstalling it when I was having issues with getting it to run before and that didn't fix that issue. In which case it seems like there is probably something else routinely causing issues with the install, (bad internet connection, anti-virus, etc would be my guess).

Yeah - man, its really super strange. Do you have similar problems with other games ? like having them to run in admin mode ?

Bad connection should not be a problem. Corrupt downloads are also very much unlikely since you tried to reinstall several times. Maybe theres something wrong with the file permissions, and you really needed to kill the sunage directories. You could also try to disable the antivirus shortly just to check.

Yeah, I don't typically have issues. It could have been the anti-virus, but I think I've only had an issue with that with one other game (out of over 100), still worth checking.

I am ghost posting for sure, but I also had this issue, and found through some research it had something to do with an Anti-cheat built into the game having issues with the Steam License version of the game.
I do NOT know if, at this point several(SEVERAL) years into the future if the issue was ever remedied.
