Nancy Drew: Legend of the Crystal Skull

Crystal Skull Won't Launch SOLVED
If you have downloaded Legend of the Crystal Skull and it would not launch (i.e. the program would successfully install but it would not launch when you clicked the shortcut on the desktop or in the program folder), I had the same problem but was able to solve it. Here are the steps:

Make sure you are in the adminstrator profile for your machine before you begin.

1. Uninstall the game COMPLETELY from your computer, down to running a file search on your drive for any files with the game's name and deleting them all. Then clear your Recycling Bin of those files as well.
2. Turn off your antivirus and firewall protection TEMPORARILY (don't forget to turn them back on later).
3. Go to your main documents folder (C:>Users>yourusername>Documents) and create a new folder titled "Legend of the Crystal Skull"
4. Reinstall the game from Steam, but DO NOT let it put the game in the HerInteractive folder of your Program Files. Instead, tell the game to install into the folder you created.
5. Right click on the shortcut that is now on your desktop and select Properties.
6. Select Compatibility, then click the checkbox next to "Run in compatibility mode", then select "Windows XP Service Pack 3" from the drop down menu.

The game should now launch and work.

Compatibility mode did not work on its own for me either, no. Whatever goes wrong in the default install isn't fixed by that. If you went through the non-firewall/antivirus install, try manually moving the game files into the folder you created and give it another shot. It seems to be the install with no firewall or antivirus running that does the trick.

If Steam doesn't work out for you, you can always get a refund and download the game directly through HerInteractive online. I know that install will let you put it in the created folder exactly like the steps above. Steam has been very accommodating and quick with refunds, at least with me, so it's not a bad backup plan.
Hmm. This all worked for me, and apparently for other players who downloaded through HerInteractive judging from the message board posts, but there may be specific operating systems and platforms that pose additional problems. I would recommend contacting HerInteractive directly to see if they have any ideas. I got the process that worked for me from their website, so they are aware of the problem and can probably help you out.
