I agree it's a shame that this bug prevails. I don't believe the reason is the def being lazy.
Solgryn is extremely passionate about all of his games and has provided continued support and patches to the game.
Yes, it is made of spaghetti code, but apart from technical problems, it is vastly superior to pretty much any triple A game you can name, especially if you look at bosses and leveldesign.
I prefer a technically challenged masterpiece to a flawlessly programmed, but much less sophisticated design. That is just my preference though.
