Prestige Isn't Really an Improvement?
Seems like everything costs more and takes more time, equal to the %boost you get. I may be a little off, but it definitely feels extremely underwhelming.

Am I missing something?

My experience is different from yours then. :) It definitely goes quicker each time you prestige.
But the dev has also acknowledged he wants to do more with it, so look for improvements in this area in future developments. Source: roadmap update on steampage

cant say that. going to tier 3 took me like 20 minutes this time.. first playthrough it was like 4 hours....

Ohh, I didn't even notice the prices increased as it felt much faster for me. Just checked and you are right but not completely. Prices increased 1.5x (from 30/22 for second ore miner to 45/33 at prestige 1 and from ~800 widgets to unlock tier 2 to ~1200), while production increased 2x. So overall it's still a little faster.

It just isn't a 5x upgrade with my 500% Prestige. More like a 2.5x or so.

More like 6/3.5=1.71x

If it follows the same rule as for the first prestige - +50% to cost and +100% to production then it will asymptotically get to 2x without ever reaching it. First levels will be more significant while later levels will barely add anything.

Example (cost:production):
0. 1:1
1. 1.5:2=1:1.33 (if normalized by cost) - 33% increase compared to previous prestige
2. 2:3=1:1.5 or 12.5% increase compared to previous prestige
3. 2.5:4=1:1.6 or 6.7% increase compared to previous prestige
...
10. 6:11=1:1.83
11. 6.5:12=1:1.85 or 0.7% increase compared to previous prestige
...
50. 26:51=1:1.96

Btw, if you reached prestige 5 already do you remember if crafting 6 basic widgets in the beginning consumed 6 or 4 iron ingots? At prestige 1 to craft 2 it requires 2 but I am not sure if it's a rounded up 1.5 or an actual 2. What I mean is the cost to craft items increased by 50% (same as frames and research) or by 100% (same as production)? If it's 50% then efficiency will be much better than what I calculated earlier for higher tier resources because extra production will accumulate at each tier. But I expect it to be 100% so the calculations above should be valid.

how do you prestiege? i am at 8000/10000 rockets.

I accidentally disassembled the glitched frame trying to inspect it.

You get a chance to prestige everytime you fire a rocket.

I was annoyed by this. I was hoping to prestige and have a much more accelerated run and feel the fun of growth you often see in these idle games, but the cost upscaling just took all the fun out of it. Prestige 5 and while I am indeed making things 6x faster, the very first buildings cost over 100 steel and widgets and it just doesn't feel as satisfying as you'd want. Makes me wish I just sat on the prestige 2 for 50x the necessary rocket parts and just got prestige 50. Probably wouldn't be that much longer than doing it at prestige 5 and I wouldn't have to redo the entire game over again exactly the same just barely faster. Super disappointing.

I'll probably quit at this point since I don't want to get RSI from mashing crtl+click on buildings to upgrade them anymore and I think there's nothing more to this game. Without giving the promised growth factors catch-free, each play-through is just way too samey and offers nothing new.

Wait. Why are you still doing that after around tier 7 at first prestige at which point you unlock autoupgrader and copy features? You get those features unlocked from the very beginning on further prestiges. Let the first building be autoupgraded or upgrade it manually once and then just copy it instead of building. I stopped using mass ctrl+click after I unlocked the copy feature.

Let autoupgrader deal with building new unlocks.
Use copy to create new buildings.

Yeah it's very samey and nothing new
but if you want to launch rockets faster, first one was 10000 then second 11000
On my prestige 3 it's 13453 rocket so i'm not sure what the growth rate is, but it seems to be much slower than 50% production requirement while your rocket parts are still being made at 1+ n prestige

but very true, after couple prestige, what's the point, there's no new mechanics to unlock other than to finish out the 50 rockets and maybe send 10 rockets in one prestige

If your math are correct, the optimal way to reach prestige 50 is to first prestige at level 8-10 (very doable, i'm currently at 9 after leting the game build rockets for less than a day) for a nice production boost (183%) then go to 50.
