I think you can only be grouped with other players on same server as you, and there's no way to pick your server (I believe you're assigned a server based on your physical location when you first launch the game).
There are also small public areas in safe locations (like Winterfell) where players can see each other. They recently increased the number of locations this occurs in, which is an odd choice given that the feedback on this feature was generally unfavorable.
I appreciate it. Thats what I was suspecting. I was wanting to play with my friends in full co-op. Bummer. On to the next one I suppose. I'll not waste anymore time with this stinker then... Thanks for the info...
