I have the exact problem and I have to restart my computer to stop it from running :( It worked a couple months ago when I first installed it. Windows 7 64-bit. Edit: Actually just booted up after ending the process and trying again. Who knows how consistant of a solution that is.

I had troubles getting this game to run as well. I was able to get it run by running the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP. Below is some semi-detailed instructions on how to enable compatibility mode.

1) right click on the Haunted Carousel in Steam, select properties
2) under the local files tab, select "Browse local files"
3) right click on the "Game" application and select properties.
4) Under Compatibility tab, select the box "run this program in compatibility mode for:"
5) Make sure Windows XP (service pack 3) is selected.
6) Click OK
7) Run the game and enjoy :steamhappy:

I can't play this game at all. It says I need DirectX and other nonsense. I haven't this game in ages and wanted to play it again!! Does Steam do refunds on broken games?

This method didn't work for me until I also checked the box next to "run in 640 x 480 screen resolution" - also on the compatibility tab. (I have Windows 11). Hope this helps others who are still having issues launching the game. It's been fun so far!

This method worked for me but instead of opening the game in steam I double clicked on the "game" application and started it that way after changing the settings.
