Makes me mad, tbh.
That also happened with some other G-Mode release. For example, with shoot'em up ones. While both versions of G-Mode's DoDonPachi DaiOuJou came to PC, Ketsui stayed on Switch.
It's frustrating because it's also stuck in Japan too, despite the gaming having a western mobile release (and is completely in English).
It's not emulated either, it's a full-blown Unity remake; It would take only a few hours to prepare the project for PC.
We will never be able to get all the titles we want, let alone all the titles any given individual player wants, but we will continue to seek those permissions anyway.
But I get that it must be tough balancing the parts especially without being able to get rights to many of the most popular tetris games.
Besides what I mentioned the biggest drawback to me is the lack of localization of the Japanese titles. I guess there's some how to videos but proper localization would show some extra care in implementing the titles included and combat some of the complaints of the missing popular titles.
I loved Atari 50 and enjoyed the updates as well as the wider world of Atari dlc. I know digital Eclipse can do great work but I'm on the fence about getting this one.
- you could "tune" some of the fundamentals of the game, most notably the DAS repeat rate and activation delay. IIRC this came from competitive players who find the game too slow. This was a very welcome feature and a staple of PC competitive Tetris that you can find in Tetris Online Japan and now in tetr.io. (or perhaps that because you can tune it that people flocked to these game? Egg and chicken problem...).
- There were several versus modes, and while 4p versus worked as your expected (with a targeting feature similar to Tetris DS), 2p versus was technically interesting, as it could in fact work offline. You were not battling synchronously, but instead were competing against the ghost of another player. This made the gameplay silky smooth which is very nice considering the fact it was a wide appeal browser game
- I *think* this were the 4 wide strategy came into play?
I am not into the guideline scene (only had a passing interest ; this was around the time the Tetris community split due to forum drama, but that's not a story that's relevent here) but I mentioning at least Tetris Friend would be a nice nod to them, and also legal. IIRC the 40L sprint scene moved to unofficial clones when Tetris Friend closed, but they did some truly impressive feat of gameplay, I remember hosting in my YouTube repo the video of the first person who broke the 1 tetramino per second limit.(on mobile so formatting is poor, will come back to cleanup later)
