List of Issues with Tetris Forever
I've run into a lot of issues with Tetris Forever. Some are glitches, some are weird design choices, and some are nitpicks; I'll tag each one appropriately. I'll add more to this discussion if I find any more issues, please feel free to add your own.

[Glitch] 2 inputs cannot happen simultaneously in Tetris Time Warp (I.E. If I'm holding a direction, I cannot Hard Drop).

[Glitch] It is not possible to remap buttons on console games to the Z Key, it just goes to another key, usually X (Important since Z is used for Counter Clockwise rotation with default keyboard layouts).

[Design] Tetris Time Warp's Marathon mode isn't Marathon mode, it's endless (Marathon caps out at 150 lines).

[Design] The Time Warps in Tetris Time Warp do not accurately depict their source material: all the modes use SRS (when it is not broken), 7 Bag (I think, since it just reuses your next queue whenever you warp), and extensive lock delay.

[Design] The Guideline is not properly implemented in Tetris Time Warp: Due to the glitch with inputs, certain spins & kicks do not function as intended.

[Design] It is not possible to rebind controls for the PC games (I get the authenticity argument, but I want to play the games in a way that's comfortable, and a lot of these games assume the player's keyboard has a numpad, which a lot of keyboards nowadays do not have).

[Nitpick] It is not possible to use modern keyboard controls in most games, as only 1 button or key can be bound to a given action: This means X and Up Arrow cannot both be Clockwise Rotate (Niche scenarios when this is needed, but it comes up in higher levels of play).

[Nitpick] There are not separate control schemes for menu navigation & game play: this means if you want to play the classic games with Modern PC Controls, A will be Up Arrow, and Space will be Up on DPad, which gets more confusing than menu navigation on a leverless fight stick (A possible solution would be to have 2 control mapping profiles, that could be swapped via a key that's not used, like the number keys or maybe tab)

[Nitpick] The Time Warps in Tetris Time Warp do not give the player enough time to adjust between warps: at level 15 a piece will usually be placed before the Time Warp effect finishes, leading to possible goals being made near impossible to reach (depending on what board you start with)

[Nitpick] Tetris Time Warp is boring in single player. Since there's no line cap, the game can go forever, and be constantly interrupted by the warps. The warps get old fast since the objectives are static and always appear in the same order. Combine this with the glitches around inputs and the game just isn't very fun.

I want to be able to enjoy the games presented, but there are so many issues that it's hard to enjoy almost any of the games available.

Hey, I noticed that TTW Score Attack is LITERALLY endless. In other words, I noticed that the level caps at 15 and the game speed stops increasing, meaning you can quite easily keep playing forever. It's just slow enough that even a moderately skilled player is going to have to deliberately top out to end the game.
Not sure if this is an oversight or a bug or something, but it's certainly something that might need fixing.

We’ve just pushed an update that enables custom control configurations for all games in Tetris Forever, including the MS-DOS, Apple II, and Electronika 60 versions. To reassign the controls for each game, open the Pause menu during gameplay and select Controls.

More improvements are in development.

A few things. First, appreciate the patch! Thank you! Do you have a time table on when this patch will hit consoles? I'm on Switch.

Also, I have a couple bugs in Electronika 60 that I didn't see in this thread here when skimming through everything. 1) There doesn't appear to be a way to change your selection from Yes to No when the game asks if you want to play again, even though the text on screen asks Yes or No.

2) The leaderboard in E60 (someone addressed this already, but it didn't quite describe my issue), it appears to only look at the hundreds number in your score and completely ignores any of the thousand markers that you obtain. The leaderboard also does not show any of the thousand markers, except for the number one spot, but that is only showing two marks for me. So, right now, my highest score is 996**, but I know for a fact that is not my highest actual score; it is only the highest score when looking at the hundreds counter. Again, on Switch.

One last thing: I know this is an issues thread, but are there any plans to add online or bot support to Time Warp? A lot of Tetris games have bot support at the least, so even though it wasn't outright stated, I was still kind of expecting this.

Having played quite a bit more I also notice that console games with saveram don't... actually save. I mean, I *can* set a savestate before I stop, but it shouldn't have to. I would expect it to behave similar to the cart; next time I virtually power on the game my profile is still there.

hard drop (keyboard) is no working in Warp 1989

Hard drop isn't in the Game Boy version, thus it isn't in the 1989 version. That's entirely the point of having different eras.

It would also be necessary to create different command menus,
each for each mode
in such a way that the Hard Drop function does not appear for the 1989 version.
That's entirely the point of command menu: assign working function.

When playing 1989 it is possible to pause and access the command menu, where the hard drop function is offered.

Okay, is the command menu specifically for 1989 era or Time Warp as a whole? The bug isn't in not having a hard drop; it's in not telling the player that hard drop will not function in 1989 in the command menu.

Current situation of Electronica 60:

I have to set the controls every time I start in game (I feel like crying).
(In Warp, instead, you lose all settings and ranking records when you log out of your account...I'm speechless...)
The entire game loses settings when you log out from your Steam account...what a disaster...

The leaderboard (Electronica 60) resets every time I exit the game.
There is no Hi-score visible while playing.
It's possible that in 2024 we won't be able to do

- hi-score visible while playing
- permanent ranking, always available (and not just with Game Over)

...a visible hi-score (on side in screen) and an always consultable ranking do not change the structure of the game

Then, it asks me if I want to continue or not (Yes/No), there is no way to select No.
I pressed every possible button.

Triple-A pricing, indie game management.
There was even a need to ask for an option to configure the buttons in some games.

Now that is interesting. I'm assuming you're on Steam, but your account is private.

On Switch, there is no high score shown during gameplay and from what I understand, this is accurate to the original game, so absolutely no reason to expect or ask for this feature unless I am wrong about the original not having it.

The leaderboard does not reset for me, but it does only count the hundreds column, ignoring any thousand markers. I also cannot select No during the Play Again question.

If there is a way to customize controls on Switch in E60, I can't find it.

You've got this backwards, lol.
Triple-A pricing = $60/$70, Tetris Forever is $35 (i.e. indie range).
Game management is the Triple-A bit, since the whole collection is riddled with bugs.

it's a simple request. They can do it just fine since we are in 2024.

In the 1989 version of Warp there is the ranking that is not present in the Gameboy version (which you yourself compared with Warp 1989).
As you have seen, they can easily put a permanent ranking and even a hi-score,
if they want.
If the manufacturers had to stick to the standards of the 80s they would have to remove all the save and rewind functions.
And then, I had clearly specified, in my previous post, that the hi-scores should be put aside ("on side in screen", I wrote), that is, out of the original gameplay when this did not provide for it.

All it takes is a little desire to do things, but I see that they are too busy fixing a lot of bugs that are so obvious that they could have discovered them on their own simply by playing.

In Electonica 60 for PC, leaderboard reset on exit game.
Also keyboard settings reset on exit game.

If there is a way to customize controls on Switch in E60, I can't find it.
wake up, here we are on Steam PC not Switch... wake up!!!!!!

Game management is the Triple-A bit, since the whole collection is riddled with bugs.
Classic 2D -Triple A- arcade games are sold at release for less than 40 euros on PC

- Bubble Bobble for friend
- Contra Galuga
- Ghost'n' Goblin Resurrection
- Arkanoid Eternal Battle
- Street of Rage 4

etc.

Classic 2D indie games are sold for around 10 euros.

on PC, 60-70 euros is 3D Big production pricing
(Red Dead Redemption 2, Hogwarts Legacy, Cyberpunk 2077 etc...)

So let's summarize:

- triple A price
- game management it's no triple A

Some games (Warp, Super Tetris 3 endless mode and Electronica 60) are very beautiful in their own right,
but overall game management it's no beautiful.

From now on, I will only answer if the comments I read are fair and useful.
In order to prevent this useful topic.

Lol, yeah, I'm better off ending my convo with you, man. It's clear you don't understand the difference between what Digital Eclipse releases (recreations, actual original ROMs) and the concepts of remakes, remasters (none of the historical games they've released)). There's no official Switch forum (wake up lol) and the devs clearly respond here, I'm sure they appreciate the feedback considering they are the ones who ask for it.
mickyc1 Dec 5, 2024 @ 6:10am
add to long list issues:

the game loses memorizations and scores.
Today I have nothing in my recent games, and all Warp leaderboards are reset.
Also keyboard setting, all reset, another time...

In the meantime, I'm waiting also for you to resolve Electronica 60 issues:

- on exit, game lose commands setting and scores
- on game over, asks to continue "Yes/No", buy only "Yes" is a available
