This game doen't work after I downloaded it nor when I re-downloaded it from Steam. I have not heard from the steam helpdesk more than 10 days after they said they would respond by e-mail

If the mouse won't work at the menu but you can still hear the music, this is a common problem. For some reason, Danger By Design doesn't like to work, and it may have something to do with the game not working well with newer monitors. Some people have success by running it in compatibility mode (set to run for Windows 98/ME) and running it as an admin, but it still may not work. Her Interactive is aware of the problem and is working on it, but no fix yet, which is bumming everyone out since it seems like this is a favorite for a lot of people. If you haven't gotten it to work yet and these options don't work, I guess you'll have to just try to get your money back...

In case people end up having the same issue as me, I had an issue where the game was zoomed in on a section of the screen in full screen mode, making it to where I could only see the upper left corner of the game. I went to my resolution settings and change my text size back to "Small - 100%" (it had been set to 'Large - 150%'). Afterwards, when I started up the game, the full screen sized correctly to my monitor.

My game won't load, it simply gives me an error.

The error reads: InitDirectDraw(), SetDisplayMode(), DDERR_Unsupported
Action not supported. (OK)

Don't know what to do, I'll try running it in compatability mode but I'm not sure if thats the same error other people are getting. Currently downloading another game from the bundle to see if that works, but so far this game does not work at all. Very sad, I had a copy of this game when I was a kid but it got lost at some point so I decided to buy the bundle when its on sale, and apparently doesn't even ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ work. Very disappointed.
My game is glitching during the paint part I swear every color is right yet he says I'm wrong so I moved on but now baking cookies I would offer a million dollars that I did everything right but once again she says I didn't and I can't continue the story! any tips?

Definitely talk to Steam support. This is becoming a common issue.

Hi there,

The problem with my version of Nancy Drew: Danger by Design is that it won't even start up. I click the "Play" button on Steam in my Library, I get a green square around my avatar and then goes back to blue and the game never loaded. I also try to use the shortcut on my desktop but I get the same thing. Is there a way to fix this?

What I was told when I contacted Her Interactive directly is that most of the games were designed for older windows and they have not been updated when they got put on steam. I have a work around that worked ok in windows 7 for some games (have not tested it in Windows 10), but I have only tested it on my pc and have yet to share it with anyone else, so i don't know if it works for EVERY game, but I know it works for a few of them.

If I remember right it goes as follows:

Go to the game you want to play's folder in the steam folder -> steamapps -> common -> game folder...and then go to the file game.ini and change RunInWindowedMode's value to 0 instead of 1. And save. If it doesn't work, just open the .ini file back up and change the value back.

Thanks for sharing that. I actually fixed it a while ago and it was very simple xD. I have my game shortcuts' in folders on my desktop. After I closed the folder and clicked "Play now" on the game in my Steam library, it worked fine xD.

So the problem I'm having is when starting the game, the screen goes black, the music starts playing, but the menu doesn't show up. I've tried pretty much every solution in trying to get it to work already listed on this page, but none of it is quite doing it...

I've even Alt+Tabbed out of the game and reopened it, and that will sometimes make the menu come up, but then the mouse doesn't move on that screen... Any advice?

Hmmmm what operating system are you using?
