I keep getting a pop-up box that says:
Unable to open CAL or CIF TREE file "C:\Games\Nancy Drew Games\Nancy Drew - Danger by Design\DataFiles\CIFTREE.DAT". Check the path in your .ini file
I don't know what to do with this. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, I restarted the computer. Still this message. I have no clue how to check the .ini file. :(
I actually ended up contacting HerInteractive and they recommended:
1. I uninstall everything related to the game
2. I turn off all of my antivirus and firewall protection
3. I re-install the game using the administrator profile
4. I play it in compatibility for Windows 98 (for anyone reading this with the same problem later, you go to the local game files - right click on the game file itself - "Properties" - "Compatibility" - "Run this program in compatibility mode for" - "Windows 98" -- note: some people have gotten this to work running it in Windows XP Service Pack 3)
Now it's working! (In fact this has worked for all remaining games that weren't running)
Hopefully this can help someone else if they were having similar issues.
It did that to me on two games I just requested to have my money back because to me it looks like the game is corrupted. The others that I recently got work fine but Danger by Design and Kapu Cave both say unable to open. Which i did check to see if I had no room for any space but I actually had a ton of space for the file but it just didnt want to launch the game at all.
