2 weapons in the first 5 hours sounds pretty good to me.
It sounds like folks are averaging 1 weapon every 2~3 runs on Threshold 1+.
And then purchasing the weapon for 50k Karma at the hall of bonds for the characters you want to play as sooner.
edit: double checked in game because you can do that. I'm on about 170. granted maybe I'm incredibly slow but I don't think I'm people are lapping me 2 or 3 times over slow.
edit 2: my exact mission count is 168 and I have 13 unique weapons (and have bought 0 with embers) which means I've gotten a weapon 7.73%~ of the time. based on that and nothing else I imagine the drop rate is somewhere in the range of 5-10% which isn't awful all things considered.

Well, they're increasing the drop rate, seemingly adding Atelier Ryza, and nerfing players who only bought the superior damage nullification barriers (they're filling the King's Cauldron pool with bloat). I don't think I got any doing Traversal Level 2 ~ 4, so my first 11 unique weapons were my 12 runs on the initial difficulties while my 12th then dropped into my lap on my last run after a while. My mission count is 136.

Maining a single character so you can do higher Traversal Levels for 25k+ Karma per run while building cumulative level should let you buy the more important Attack increase or Musou/Assemble gauge charge unique weapons. Grind it out so your favorites reach 750 Attack and 600 Defense.
Dont really want to keep playing other chaarcters the way the game is structured, Have to spend 3 hours grindi9ng the boring lower difficulties on each character every time that you can do with your eyes closed.
Sucks that anything that does not have 100% attack on its abilities/weapon is just bad, really wish the charcters were more balanced. Lubu is ridiculous with a thunder build though if you character allows it with 200% thunder damage.
Then last run I got 3 drops.
*shrug*
Still overall not getting a good drop rate, but it tracks with my usual feast or famine luck.
pretty sure i left the game open in the background 1 day too.
