Best tip in the game
I realize after talking to others that some people don't realize that evade gives you some very forgiving invincibility frames. The tutorial doesn't explain this very well. It's not just a movement/ positioning tool. Just learning this lets you be so much more aggressive and have a lot more fun.

It's especially important when fighting bosses. Dodge through the attacks and smack the boss when they're yellow. You can stick fairly tightly to bosses and keep hitting them, while using Musou attacks and formation attacks very often. I was wondering why ppl complained so hard about bosses being that tanky in the beginning but this was probably the reason.

EDIT: You need 1 Speed emblem to get this invulnerability. Highly recommend getting it early if you're struggling. Either way this game awards you for being highly aggressive like all Dynasty Warriors.

Any run focusing speed has been a win for me. The last tier isn’t very important, but the last one decreasing the evade charge timer makes it so you can be damn near immortal due to I-frames. It can be a fairly reflex heavy way to play I suppose, but it’s still quite forgiving. It’s definitely a strong stat in general.
the guys that have "summon other heroes of x when this hero is summoned" are fantastic as well, Nene for toyotomi I forget the others offhand

Guan Yu can do it with the other Tiger Generals. Absolutely devastating!

Yeah, while i get why the mechanic exists (and there are specific skills and builds against barriers), it's a bit too bothersome if you're not specifically build against them.

Roguelite games tend to penalize of doing builds that don't focus on taking down bosses. Since this game uses Dynasty Warriors like combat with overall weak mobs they're hardly a much of consideration as your boss focused build takes them down easily. Use dashing generously to get out of danger zones and you often don't get hit in most stages.

Aside of getting elemental emblems to deal insane damage, upgrading dash is very good. Also upgrading Assembly is so good.
