Heavy Flamer vs. Assault Cannon/Plasma Cannon/Cyclone Missile Launcher
Hey all,

I've been playing Space Hulk for a while now, coming back to it every now and then since it's just so bloody good!

One thing I have noticed is that I never like to use my Heavies in any other configuration than with a Heavy Flamer.

I remember occasionally trying out the Assault Cannon and being quite disappointed by its effectiveness. I've never actually used the Plasma Cannon or the Cyclone Missile Launcher.

The Heavy Flamer just seems so versatile and powerful, and I rely on it quite a lot during my missions, especially when pushing through the map. It's one weakness seems to be its inability to damage Broodlords.

What are your opinions on these other weapons? Am I missing out by only ever bringing Heavy Flamers?

I play on Impossible by the way.

Cheers!

The best heavy weapon is the heavy flamer for the same reasons you mentioned. I use the others just for the sake of variety. CCC mod remedies the problem so give it a shot if you haven't.

I generally agree that the flamer is the best option for the heavy, at least earlier in campaigns. If you manage to get some relic bonuses for the assault cannon (especially the extra attack and extra ammo ones) then it can be a useful option. But the flamer just has better versatility and area denial.

If I am playing the Ultramarines, I will switch to the cycle missile launcher plus stormbolter combo as soon as it is available. Not being limited on ammo and having overwatch capability on another squad member is just too valuable. And usually you will have combi bolter/flamers on your ranged terminators by then for when you need flames for vents or area denial. This is mostly personal preference, but for survival missions or in tough spots it is great to have all 10 members of your double squad on overwatch and firing away.
