HELP: EF dont work

Eastern Front wont start.
What can i do?

1.) Check your EF installation!
Left click in your Steam library on "Company of Heroes: Eastern Front". Click on "properties". Click on "Local files". Open "Browse Local files". Check the shortcut. When everything is installed correct Steam should open the "Company of Heroes Relaunch" folder. EF had to be installed in "Company of Heroes Relaunch" folder! When EF is installed in an other folder please reinstall CoH Eastern Front!

EF had to be installed into the CoH Relaunch folder!

2.) Check your EF files!
Left click in your Steam library on "Company of Heroes: Eastern Front". Click on "properties". Click on "Local files". Run "Verify Integrity of game files". When EF is corrupted the game should download the missing files.

3.) Check CoH Relaunch!
Run "Verify Integrity of game files" for Company of Heroes Relaunch.

4.) None of the 3 steps have solved my problem:
Uninstall Company of Heroes: Eastern Front AND Company of Heroes Relaunch. When everything is uninstalled restart Steam. You can install CoH Relaunch again. Check the files. Is CoH running? Okay. Now install CoH: EF again. EF has to be installed in "CoH Relaunch" folder. Try to start EF again.

NOTE: Keep in mind! It could take some time to launch EF for the first time!
As long as Steam status is reporting "You are now playing Company of Heroes: Eastern Front" it should be okay. The game will pop up soon! Steam and CoH have to load all EF files first. Loading the modules could take some time depending on your system.

TIP: When Steam is reporting you are playing CoH EF and you cant see any game try to use Alt+Tab to make it appear!

NOTE 2: Valve should have fixed the CoH requirement error. You were not able to install the CoH Eastern Front mod because Steam hadnt recognised your CoH relaunch installation please check the installation now. The error should be fixed!

Ingame crashes

If you are experiencing crashes, i.e. bug splat or a crash to desktop, you should follow the following steps to either reduce or completely eliminate the issue:

1) Do not play Annihilate - no pop cap mode

Company of Heroes features very detailed soldier, weapon and tank models. Having large amounts of these models on the map will lead to performance issues overtime, especially when playing no pop cap mode against Expert AI. The Expert AI will produce units over and over and at some point these amounts of units reduce performance to a point that can cause a game crash.

Even if modern hardware can handle an old game like CoH well, there still is a threshold when performance starts to drop and the game becomes unstable.

2) Check your graphic settings

CoH is poorly optimized for DirectX 10 support, which was added with Opposing Fronts. This graphic mode is prone to crashing, especially with mods.

In order to deactivate the DirectX 10 features you need to change following settings:

• Start Company of Heroes (not Eastern Front!)
  
• go to Options → Graphic settings.
  
• turn off anti alialising completely
  
• change shader quality from "ultra" → "high"
  
• change effect quality from "ultra" → "high"
  
• change water reflections from "high" → "low"
  
• turn off post processing
  
• save/apply these settings
  
• Launch Eastern Front Mod
  
• go to Options → Graphic settings. Check if the graphic settings are correct
  (sometimes Eastern Front can override the graphic settings from vCoH)

Following these steps will dramatically reduce the likelyness of crashing the game.

Ingame crashes - Update

Due to coding constraints the game tends to crash with a SCAR fatal error when using multiple british AIs ingame.
Until further notice avoid playing with more then one British AI at a time. If it still crashes avoid playing with British AI in general.

Game freezes and crash-to-desktop (ctd)

Game freezes and complete game crashes with and without error messages are very often driver or hardware related. Sometimes it's a outdated driver or overheating issue, sometimes it is a broken component.

I'd suggest to check/update graphic card drivers and other drivers, and check that the computer does not run the game with onboard graphic chips. Sometimes the computer uses the onboard graphic chip to run games, which might work for some old games. It might even work for regular CoH but eastern front requires a bit more performance, so the onboard chip might not be enough to play it.

Also you should check if the PC fans are clean, and that the PC is not overheating while playing.

Game crashing/Black screens (patch 3.3)

We're reworking the AI codes heavily at the moment which will result in issues with playing campaign and/or custom maps. We'll fix it but it will require some time.
