Chapter 7 help please!!

There ia a metal door that doesn't allow access to a room. There ia also a opening in the floor which you must use. Once you drop down you fall into a room with 3 dwarves. If you manage to kill them, there are a few items to loot including a scroll for I believe it was lightning storm, and a few lightning runes. There are steps leading up, which once you use them, you need to kill 2 trolls/large goblins who drop the mining picks. After they are dead, there are 2 chests to loot, and a secret on one of the walls that has a necklace behind it. My question is, once you have done all of this, you are now in the original room with the metal door, but now on the other side of it. I have no idea how to open the door. You can go back down the staris, but there isn't anything of use down there. The pit you fall through does have what looks like a metal plate for putting a stone/torch on, but I have tried that and it doesn't do anything. Any help is appreciated. Don't think they would give you access to the room if you couldn't find a way out. I decided to restart the level, and ask for help,.

Clue 1: When you first encounter the metal door, there's a sign by a pit that asks you to return mining tools.

Clue 2: It's never too late to do that, look where the pit leads to.
Clue 3: (the solution) You need to put the right thing on the metal plate. You guessed it, a mining pick.
