Lamenting Golem
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3381636995

Created by a witch or sorcerer to accomplish but one task, long ago. With the passing of its’ creator and its’ task accomplished and forgotten to time, the lamenting golem now wanders and digs. Digs in the earth, possibly searching for something, or possibly to return to the clay from which it was molded. Who can say? The practical application of this knowledge is that travelers can be alerted to one nearby by the sighting of large holes in the earth, dug by hands more massive than any mundane creature of the woods prone to burrowing.

If spotted, the golem will first retreat and hurl clogs of dirt in the hopes of slowing the movement of its pursuer. If engaged in close proximity, beware of its massive arms of hardened clay and stone, the brute force of which will prove fatal to any traveller, armor or no. Its body is composed of the same earthen material, and will break sword, spear, and arrow alike. One who finds a golem enraged would benefit from remembering that a creature animated by means of magic is too undone by it.

If felled, an astute traveller may consider returning to the site of its body after allowing some time for decomposition. Encased in the body of a golem is a token previously belonging to its’ creator - usually a gem of great value, or a song dear to their heart. Why not find out for yourself?

This is my submission for the holiday scroll giveaway. Just a quick sketch, but I enjoyed the process of thinking up a backstory as well. It’s been very cool to see the other artwork submitted so far! Thanks Hannah and Joseph for putting this little contest together, it’s a really fun idea. Happy holidays everyone :)

This is wonderful, I love this concept so much!

The sadness of this poor creature would fit into the world of Vol really well, and Invimona being left unpopulated for ~three hundred years would only increase its already powerful sorrow and anger. And the treasure that appears (or song you can learn!) after time has passed is excellent - a limited amount of these golems hulking around and you can learn some special songs from them, great stuff.

Thank you for submitting this and also for the kind words! We are really excited about all of the ideas submitted so far, and are glad it's community-picked because we couldn't choose at this point.
