To cast spells you have to select the spell book in the radial menu. This will show any created spells that are available to cast. This menu will stay open anytime you pause for that character in combat.
Selecting auto-cast in the spell book is for characters you're not actively playing as in the moment.
Some other folks have talked about companions automatically using consumables and we'll be adding that in. NPCs do that already, we were planning on making a control system for that to determine how frequently they take them, but we'll get a basic version in more quickly. Thanks for the input.
The yellow bar is the Rally meter, this has a pop-up in the Act 1 segment, but once more than one character has this filled, you can select that other character and then a target and you'll combine your attacks into one damage number to break through armor.
The blue bar I believe you're referring to is their action meter, and they can perform actions when that is full.
id recommend going to one of the vol trees and adjusting some of the starting spells spirit cost, i know the fauna spells cost 2 segments of the bar, but with some gem dust you can make versions that have reduced cost with the same effect.
