Automatic Camera Switch
You know that thing where the game just randomly decides to boot you to another camera that's closer to Hope than the one you're currently on? Yeah, that. Please tell me how to turn that off.

And if there's no way to turn that off, then instead please tell me how on earth I'm supposed to stealth my way around patrolling guards (or get away from ones that have spotted me) with all those misclicks that are directly caused by the game arbitrarily deciding to shunt me to a different viewpoint.

edit: While we're at it, how do I disable Hope automatically trying to avoid the guards' line of sight? This is the third time now she's walked right into their line of sight, when just staying where I put her would've kept her safe.
One time she managed to walk right into a guard himself, because apparently that's just what she does when I don't give her any instructions for one second

Thanks for the feedback on this. This is a feature we'd like to support down the road, as it's been requested by a good number of folks.

Personally I like the tension of the auto-switching camera (I'm playing the first Resident Evil again over my holiday break and am reminded how auto-camera switching builds the tension), but I understand if it's not for everyone.

That's good to hear, I'm looking forward to it! Yeah, things like that are extremely subjective. For me the camera just switches at the same time as I click somewhere way too often, and especially in stealth games I want to be in full control of the viewpoint and character(s). That way, if I get caught I only have myself to blame and don't end up getting frustrated at the game^^
Thanks for the reply and have a nice day

I don't really like when the tension is made by making the player to wrangle the camera. This was the case in the older games but not because it would be that great but because of the different technical limitations. It seems that devs are looking at this with a huge nostalgia so they might not see how horrible that really is. For me it is very frustrating so I'll wait, maybe it'll be implemented.

It would already help a lot if you block autoswitching for a few seconds after manual switching, or if you take the direction of vision/travel into account. Often, particularily when you are going against the "normal" flow, cameras autoswitch back immediately after you switched them manually.

i agree that this is annoying and sometimes rather detrimental to your ability to safely navigating her around. that said, the auto switch sometimes is also essential, such as when moving into an area where you can not see the cameras ahead of time. seems to me a simple solution would be to add a function where you could "lock" yourself in a selected camera until you manually switch to another (or do the find hope function).

It's been six months, nothing has changed, good job.

Just got caught 2 times in a row because of this. Had to go back to main menu to avoid the alert status occurring. Annoyances annoyances

If nothing else, it makes sense in RE1 because they use fixed backgrounds. They obviously can't have the camera actually truck and follow you, because the environment is just a 2D image. In Republique, the camera is an explcit part of the game mechanics. You're expected to cycle forward through the camera network, and rewarded for it.

What would make the most sense to me, is if it only automatically switches if the most recent camera selected was the "closest to Hope" - and even then, maybe only automatically change if the most recent change was either automatic or by pressing the button to select "Hope's camera" (L3 on controller). That way the player doesn't accidentally change from Manual to Automatic when Hope gets near the chosen camera. If trying to control Hope through a wall or two, a little prompt reminding us of that button would be fine.

There are sections where Hope moves from the area of one camera network, and enters a new area. I... honestly wouldn't have a preference for how this is handled. Whether the player has to press L3 (or keyboard equivalent) during this "Manual mode", or the player is forced into "Automatic mode" in these parts, I don't think there's one way that would be better than the other. For other situations, though, my preference is pretty firm.

Just found this game, fell in love with it, really fun to explore & find secrets, then I run into the automatic camera switches, that's just one major issue that apparently isn't patched/fixed yet, but another I have noticed, if "Hope" is designated to a spot, sometimes she'll loop around the object, I had 2 guards in one section come to the same spot and somehow she wasn't spotted, but several times where a guard spotted her when she was "Peeking Out" with her usual idle animation, I can only imagine later levels since I'm still on the first chapter, as it's going to get harder and more guards to dodge, that I have to deal with these reoccurring issues

I'll try to push through and enjoy the game, but I can only think that I'd get frustrated later due to it all

Good Luck & Have Fun :smiling:

I am totally agree. Automatic Camera Switch is annoying and makes no sense for the gameplay.

except as i mentioned at times it is essential for finding new cameras... a toggleable camera lock option is definitely the way to go here, because when you dont want it to switch and it does it can cause you to get caught.

also: wow this is a necro-thread haha i had actually forgotten about this game so long ago was the last post to this thread. glad to see the game is still getting some play though, i definitely enjoyed it even if i never finished it (in part because of this bug, and others).

Game's gone F2P now and I suspect it won't be getting any updates of this kind. But I can still dream... Navigation is a real pain sometimes when the camera autoswitches to a viewpoint where I can no longer see the Prizrak I'm trying to avoid...

I love what this game is going for. It feels very unique and different.
But damn the auto switching cameras are awful. I dont understand why we cant just toggle it on or off.
