[MAJOR SPOILERS] République ending explained
Hey there! The following text is just a repost of a comment I made in other thread, but I thought that it would be helpful to have it here just in case someone wants some help understanding the story and doesn't have the time to look between hundreds of other messages. You should, however, take into account that this should not be takes as the absolute truth, as it is only my version of the story according to the research I've done, but I would say that it is pretty likely that most of this is true, so here it goes. I hope that you find it useful, and please feel free to answer with any other doubts you have, and I will try to solve them if I can :D.

I'm probably a little late to the discussion, but here is my opinion:

République is not a game that gives you the story right in front of your face. The story is something you gotta find through collectibles, by paying close attention to some details and, of course, by thinking a lot about what you just saw. Not doing that can (and most likely will) make you think that dvelopers were just lazy and that they didn't care about the story (as I've seen in some review pages where they say that 'the ending of episode 4 (with 390's death) is not acknowleded in episode 5 *sigh*). Anyway, I'm pretty sure that hope DOES NOT die at the end of the game. I mean, she just fell to the water from a ship full of US military and high-tech equipment, probably followed by lots of other boats. Do you really think that the wouldn't be able to save her? Yeah, she decided to fall into the water instead of accepting Zager's/The Vice Admiral's requests, but imagine you've never seen ANYTHING about the outside world and you are suddenly put into a dillema about a future you know nothing about. You really think that everyone could process all that information at once? I don't think so. About the decision, I have to say that it is one of the most important points in the game, because it helps to remember something that people seem to have forgotten: you are not Hope. Hope is a person, and what she does with her life is not up to you or anybody else. It's HER decision.

Now let me (try to) clarify some of the questions made in previous messages:

1 (About The Arrival).- The Arrival, as I understand it, is the public revealing of Methamorphosis alongside all the power that the nation has at its disposal (don't forget that all of the US info and probably also from the rest of the world is stored in Terminus, and Treglazov can manipulate it as he pleases). I also understand it as the literal arrival of Methamorphosis' citizens to the real Methamorphosis, the big Pyramid in the middle of the sea.

2 (About Pre-Cals).- Terminus has, as I said before, LOTS of vital information, that cannot of course be thrown into just one place. That is why, thanks to Drs. Abhal and Peretz's work, a way to store huge amounts of data in human ADN has been found, thus leading to the use of Mirrors, human beings whose sole objective is to serve as backups, passing most of their time sleeping in the pods seen in Ep.4. As any storage device, mirrors can become corrupted, and that's why they are brought to the underground and referred to as Pre-Cals, what means that they are soon going to be wiped and have Terminus' data injected again. That way, without any memories, corruption is (or at least should be) fixed.

3 (About Methamorphosis).- As I said before, Methamorphosis is Treglazov's own country, its main weapon being the info stored at Terminus. As I understand them, until the Arrival Methamorphosis had been a set of boats travelling across the ocean with the objective of arriving at the Pyramid, what I think was intended to be the definitive Methamorphosis. The surface seen in Ep.4 wasn't the actual surface. Remember the door the Overseer was coming through at the end of the chapter? Doesn't it look a lot like the ones we see at the epilogue? Think about it, maybe Treglazov was entering through that door because he had just been paying a visit to the ACTUAL outside world, because The Arrival was just taking place in a few hours. As for how that man got the resources for building all of that, I have some documents that I can pass you that include the request that he made to the US government in order to fund him. Feel free to ask for them if you're interested.

4 (About 390-H).- As I said before, Hope is a Pre-Cal, a corrupted backup that is scheduled for data wiping. She is not the only one of her kind, as we can see in Ep.4 with her dounble or at the end of Ep.5 with the info we gather from satellites. Yes, 390-A, 390-B... existed, and they were all clones that were probably corrupted beyond repair and released to the outside world (obviously traumatized and with other mental sequels caused by their time in Methamorphosis). So yes, Hope is just one of the various girls included in the 390 series that has enough luck as to reach us and escape.

5 (About how Mireille reaches the player and Cooper trusts us to guide Hope).- That's actually one of the most cool things about the game. You are YOU. Don't forget that Terminus contains data of millions of people all over the world, so by randomly selecting people on the Terminus database she may have as well reached you, me, your grandmother, my uncle or even the president. It just happens that the player was the one called (for obvious plot reasons). As for why they trust the player, my guess is that they have no other choice. You are the only one that would not get killed in case of being caught helping someone in their escape, because you cannot be reached by the Prizrak's hands, so they probably have no other option but to trust you.

République is not an easy game to understand. I've been months trying my best to make some sense out of it and here is part of what I gathered. Episode 3 is the last episode where you can remotely understand the overall plot just by watching what the game directly exposes. 4 and 5 are not bad episodes, they just require you to think a lot about the critical information they indirectly provide and you, as the player, must not only complete the puzzle, but make the last pieces of it before fitting them into their place. This is not a standard modern game that assumes that the player is not intelligent at all. This is a game that assumes that the player is REALLY intelligent as is willing to study everything carefully, for better or for worse. In my opinion, this is a highly underrated masterpiece that is not well understood not because players are stupid, but because they are not willing to put all their effort of coming up with the story (and I don't blame them, I wouldn't have done it either if it wasn't because this game struck me so deep in the heart, for reasons I still don't get to understand, but that have made me one of its greatest fans).

As I said before, feel free to answer my message if you want to continue with the discussion. I hope that my post makes everyone who takes the time to read it understand this story better. I was also confused with the ending at first, but nothing is what it seems to be at first glance, isn't it?

There is very little left for me to say right now, so I just want to wish you a good night. And watch your step.

PD: Please excuse me if I made any gramatical mistakes. I'm not a native English speaker and it's really late here in my country, so I am very tired to start checking the post again in order to correct errors. Thanks for understanding :)

Well, huh... they are in a boat... if we suppose that the only ones not allowed to go outside are the Pre-Cals... you know... I guess the rest of the crew can... do their things directly in the sea... I guess... ;-; (But that’s just a theory... a game theory.)

That is the greatest theory i heard yet. But i think i know why Hope decided to end her life.
We know that Hope and other Pre-Cals had a lot of data in their DNA. Hope was the last of the Pre-Cals that wasn't recalibrated (Prizrak told Treglazov during the arrival that all of the Pre-Cals got recalibrated as Treglazov intended)
Why did Treglazov want the Pre-Cals to lose all of their memories?
Well i think that it's because he knew that the Pre-Cals knew the truth because of Damian Zager's manifesto. So he decided to make them forget about it by simply recalibrating them.
Treglazov called 390-H the "backup plan" at the end of the game.
That's because she was the last one from the 390-H series.
So to end all of the things i wanted to say.
Hope propably jumped off the boat to sacrifice herself and destroy all of the remaining data.
The Pre-Cals were all recalibrated and all of the Data from Terminus wasn't put back in them before Terminus was destroyed (I'm not sure about this one tho)
Hope sacrificed herself so the ending is neutral. It's not good because she died but she did the right thing to do so the ending is not bad. I know that im VERY VERY late to this conversation but feel free to respond :)

Thank you ! I just watched a walkthrough of the game and sadly I didn't get to pay close attention for the whole 12 hours, so that helped.

Yeah another thing too is like WHERE THE HELL is the actual garden as shown in episode 4? its very close to terminus as the elevator hope ascends is literally right next to it and the actual garden looks extremely real and not fabricated so like is it on a remote island near the metamorphosis pyramid/boat terminus is parked to or is the garden inside the boat in episode 5? it just doesn't make sense to me.

And i am also aware i am years late to the conversation but i literally can't stop thinking about this game.
