Never played before. I suck. How do I play?
Just tried to play and I got 3 outs.

Beginner tips welcome.

Anyway, here is my advice.

First, just git gud lol. Play some games and pay attention, you'll learn a lot. Apply general good baseball sense. Take some pitches, don't be too eager to hit a home run every time.

Specific to this game: Figure out who your players are and play them accordingly. The descriptions and commentary actually have a lot of relevance, I'm pretty sure there is a lot more to their mechanics than the basic 4-star abilities system, which is just there to give you a general idea. There are definitely differences between batters regarding their contact abilities versus power, even if they both have the same batting rating.

Some of the players are really fast so you they can make it to first on a grounder or even a bunt, some of them can't run if their lives depend on it so you might as well just swing for the fences since they can barely make it to first base even if the ball is fielded on the warning track.

turn on the setting where you can see the pitch, helps out beginners or try batting practice

Tee-ball is great for beginners as well.

Glad to help! Here's one more tip: Do batting practice, focus on individual kinds of pitches and then set it so it randomly throws you different ones, and do it on the beach field so you don't have to watch the balls bounce to the end before you can get the next pitch (saves an absurd amount of time compared to the concrete maps). I'd never bothered to do it before last night but I tried it and I could tell that I improved a lot, it's just a good opportunity to figure things out without the pressure of a game.
