Wad glitches and port bug.
I played Strife a lot back in my days and by playing it again for this release I found a handful of old shcool bugs.
Some have to do with the original wads (wrong thing placement, wrong texture in sidedef, inappropriated action flag on linedefs...). Most of these are hard to spot as they don't realy affect the gameplay. I'll update this post as I re-discover more of these.

Wad erros

Thing placement

This happens a lot in Doom and Doom based games, basically, when a thing is placed to close to a wall or another thing, it's unable to move or shoot.

There are two exeamples of this in the Bishop's Tower (MAP16):

And another time in the Ruined Temple of the catacombs (MAP25):

Wrong texture on sidedef

Wrong texture in the transition beteween the Bailey (MAP17) and the Badlands (MAP11)

Wrong action flag on linedef

In the sewers (MAP06), there's a upper wall with the wrong action flag in one of the waterfall:

Port erros

Additionnally, the port has some sort of problem with the screens. Basically, some weapons are unable to break them:
Flamethrowers and rocker launcher can't break linedefs with the break screen action tag and only leave decals on it.

There you have it. I'll keep updating this post when I find new erros of the sort. I know there are more of it but I want to play the game and rediscover each and every one of these :) Maybe you guys found some of these too! Let's see those mapping errors!

Be interesting to see a community patch do the line that goes through each of the levels to fix the issues and realign any textures that are messed up, then release as a pwad.

Nice work counting up the problems man, it's that kind of dedication that makes me smile.

I've got another load comming. Will update the post later today.

About making a fixed pwad, that woudln't be that hard. That wouldn't take me more than half an hour once I have a complete list of things to fix.

Oh so not like system shock 2's 'it took several very talented people in the community a year and a half to fix all the bugs realisticly possible in the maps' thing. Gotcha.

I have ideas for enhancements mostly centered on using dummied out content from the demo, but I need to get the game first to look see if the demo is like what's included in the old wads. then again this is all a moot point if anyone wants to play with enhancements until nightdive fixes whatever bug is going on to make leads crash with port enhancements turned on.

Yeah.

The demo content isn't exactly the same as the one present in the actual demo. You won't be finding the gas grenades and all that, if this is what you wanted to do.
This is why I don't buy anything older on Steam. They don't give a toss about making sure it runs properly on modern equipment.

GOG's the only way to go.

Dude chill. This is annoying but bugs are inevitable especially from a small team. They're working their keyboards off to try making stuff work. Plus they gave you the original was files to do with what you want. Things will get fixed. Hell. The source code is included in the goodies section. You think something's broke, fix it yourself! Share the source (that is allowable I suppose since Chocolate is open.)

Just ease off the millitant troll throttle and wait. Tribes 2 had a metric boatload of patches. Your mmo of choice gets tons of patches. Your phone gets patches now.

It sucks that things get wonky, but it will get fixed.

@Dr. Cripples
There is nothing game breaking and it seems that they took great care of the original material. It runs well enough even on very old machines. All the glitches mentionned up there were there in the original release, except that little problem with the breakable action flag. While that would be nice to seem them fixed, the game has never been in better hands.

These are all original map design problems from the DOS version. We fixed a bunch of similar issues, but there were obviously enough of them to slip through. If we were to fix these now, it'd break your savegames.
Are you also supposed to take fall damage when falling on the water textures from height?

@quasardw
Yeah I figured that. But that won't stop me from cataloging all these tiny mistakes :)

About the break screen action tag tho, I'm not sure the wad is responsible for that. I've had trouble reproducing it, it works in some places and doesn't in other.

Could be something we missed in the original dev for Choco. It seems a bit inconsistent. I might have to hit the disassembler again when I get a chance and look at the screen-breaking stuff.
