Choose an elf for movement speed, give him trait ''light foot'' for more speed and less trap triggering. Starting classes ranger and marksman. The first skills to pick are ''strider'' from ranger class, after that I suggest at least one point in ''power shot'' and ''disabling shot'' to help you deal with almost all human battles.
You might like some other skills than those but those 2 are the easiest ones to get, and you can get them early. Also eventually pick 'bow-in-hand'' as it will allow you to be lighter. After that pick whatever, I usually get rogue skill tree as well eventually.
I suggest getting a rare heavy crossbow asap or it's variants, it's better vs human opponents and when you're on the run since you can reload while running. Also once reloaded they fire instantly which is great and they stagger your opponent. The only downside so far is that after using a skill you have to manually click on an enemy to start the reload animation, it's probably a bug...
With this build you can do 1 vs 1-4 with some micro management+pause. It works on maps with a lot of space like "the Pit' arena and the desert arena. You can also send just your 1 guy to attack caravans and capture gladiators missions.
