Yeah makes sense you wanna save scum, so far every story event ends in something way more powerful than anything before it. There is no balance in this game for sure so of course they also did the classic bit of adding a bad stealth section.
actually none since mage mostly focus on casting spells, and they get a togglable spell that change their attacks to using a "weak" elemental bolt ( depending of the spell tree) which deals damage prior to their equipement, if its a wand or staff,
