Problems with the font
I chosen a few fonts for this and it seems all the words get mashed up in a mess I am not sure if I have been picking the wrong fonts or what but it seems like I need to uninstall and reinstall to change them and there is no option menu it just prompts me at the games start.

You can right click and choose font options if the font you choose is messing up the display.

If your still struggling to find a working font, I recommend Ms Gothic. It has worked for me and everyone I have recommend the font to, no spacing issues or letter collisions.

Seconded, the font looked a bit fuzzy/bad and I instantly went to change it to MS Gothic. Definitely a good choice, although you probably have fixed it by now.

(To TC, I'm not sure if you already played the game due to your comment, but go check out the Drama CDs once you're done reading the story or if you haven't already (you should definitely go read the translated versions of "A Snow Globe" and "Hoshi no Hito").

Yes I have fixed it now by the video tutorial in the link I was given by Rag but I am happy you taken you time to reply and I am sorry that it may be wasted doing so now. I think they should star thread or somehow make a thread that stay ontop of the descussion area that explains how to fix all problems you may encounter. For me I changed my Unicode and it fixed itself and the opening chapter not just the movie but that first chapter was truly epic.

In short, here's what worked (Windows 8.1 64-bit):
Windows users of versions below Windows 7 need first to enable Eastern Asian language support.

1. Copy all fonts from Fonts found in Control Panel to a backup folder on your Desktop.
2. Delete all fonts from Fonts Windows allows to delete except MS Gothic. Do NOT restart Windows.
3. Run the game and choose @MSGothic as the font with the right click menu.
4. Copy all backed up fonts back to Fonts.
5. Enjoy the game. :sense:

If you want to use an alternative font, it needs to be a fixed width (monotype) font.
DejaVu Sans Mono worked well for me. It's a free and open source. Search for [/b]Dejavu Sans[/b] and you'll find it on your search engine of choice.

It seems there is some kind of a menu overflow bug when the game searches for fonts, making only a few or zero fonts selectable when the Windows Fonts directory cointains many fonts.
Also the game is hardcoded to search for the MS Gothic font incorrectly and thus can't find it on non-Japanese systems.

In case anyone is still having font problems:

Right-click, and select Lucidia Console as the font. It's easy to read, spaced properly, and should be available on all systems by default.
